Dear Margaret

I am an Eacott by birth and I have been researching the family for many years. My biggest challenge has been William. The family here in Australia originated with Thomas Eacott, the son of William Eacott (possibly Henry William) and Sarah. Thomas was born in 1805 in Sutton Veny, Wiltshire. There were four (4) children born to William and Sarah in Sutton Veny and the rest that I have found were born in Westwood, Wiltshire. My problem is this: Thomas told the family that he had two brothers who left England about the same time that he did. One brother named Joseph and one brother named William. Thomas arrived in Australia in May of 1830. After years of searching, I did find the christening record for a brother named Joseph and then I found a Joseph Eacott with family in the early records for Victoria, Australia but I had nothing to connect him to my Thomas until I found one of his descendants last year and she was able to provide the pieces to the puzzle that I didn't have and proved that this Joseph was indeed the brother of my Thomas. It was so exciting for both of us. So the story about the brothers proved to be true so far, however the brother named William was supposed to have gone to either Canada or America. Another researcher told me that she had evidence of a William Eacott leaving Sutton Veny (not born there but the family were living there) in 1832 (I can't find the piece of paper right now, but it was either 1832 or 1834) and going to America. Well the only William Eacott I have been able to find that fits is this William in Lowell. The records threw me off course for a while because the first Census I found that mentioned him said that he was born in Ireland. It wasn't until I found the next Census that said he was born in England that I felt I had the right one. What has made it worse is that I have not been able to find a christening record for William so it is only the family story that I have to go on. If you have anything more that would confirm that I am onto the right William I would be ever so grateful.
I look forward to hearing from you. My home email is:
