I have a Violetta Eaches, b. abt. 1838 in PA, who is the third wife of Lewis Haney, b. 1813 in PA, (Berks Co. but the family lived in Mahoning Twp., Carbon county from 1830 census on), whose first b. child was Amos W. Haney. I have the following census record for the other Eaches family(ies) in Carbon:

1850 census shows Eaches in Carbon County:
Adam, 21
Amos W. 24
Sarah 18
Susan 22
All born in PA

Violetta or Violet was married to Lewis on August 2, 1857, after the death of his second wife. The marriage occured in Carbon County PA. The names and date is from a publication, "Der Friedens Bote", an early Carbon newspaper written in German.

Considering the given name of her first born child, Amos W., or W. E. as shown in one census, I have tracked him down at last, he had married Susan Musselman, born June 1861, in PA, likely Franklin Twp., Carbon Co. Violetta or Violet doesn't show in the 1850 census, so I have no idea if she is related to Amos and Adam but they are certainly close in age. Since she would have be 12 in 1850 she should have shown in some census record somewhere but nooooo!

Interesting too is that in one of the Eaches families there is a Whitaker, there is also a Whitaker Eaches who shows in Reading, Berks in census records. No one seems to be able to tie these people together, but there is a Violet Eaches in the Eaches families in Berks too, so there just seems to be enough coincidences for something to click somewhere doesn't there?

I researched Eaches, Eachus etc. in PA and most seem to come from Chester county, in several locations. From what I understand, slightly, there were two Eachus/Eaches brothers in early Chester County, one became or was a Quaker, the other family was not. In Chester Co. the families seem to have started in the "city" of West Chester, then the name appears in the Valley Forge area, and in I believe Nantmeal Twp. and Coventry Twp. As usual there were so many sons born to these two original families that it is hard to tell who is out of who. The Quaker Eachus seem to have multiple records, marriages, births, deaths but little on the non-Quaker Eaches. Interestingly Lewis Haney's lines are out of the McDaniel family of Carbon, then Northampton County, and Lewis' grandmother is stated to have been a Quaker too. She lived in the Lizard Creek area of now Carbon, just south of Lehighton, from at least 1773 on.

Any thoughts from anyone regarding these tough cookies to trace is most welcome.

Thanks Judy,

I agree with your conclusions. Since posting, I have solved many of my previous problems. However, I still have not found the parents of Adam J. and Amos Washinton Eaches.(I bet Adam's middle name is Jefferson!!!)It seems Adam and Amos showed up in 1850 out of nowhere. On most of the census'it is listed their parents came from Pa. I have checked all of the Eaches families for children with these names but have not found any.
Whitaker Eaches (not Whitaker R.)is Adam's grandson: don't know his parentage. By the way, Adam is my great great grand father. He is buried in Weissport, Union Hill Cemetery. Are we related in any way?

Hi Em,

You asked if we are related in any way. Maybe and yes? First there is a James Garfield Eaches, who married Emily Elizabeth Ahner (Arner). According to Joe Erner, author of the Arner website she is out of a line from my gggg grandfather Hans Ulrich Arner but not in my direct line of descent. I don't have James Garfield Eaches parents, would you have that info.

Emily Elizabeth Arner is a dau. of Franklin A. Ahner/Arner and Louisa Campbell. One of my McDaniel family descendants married into the Campbells but that in not my direct line either.

Richard Allen Eaches, son of James Garfield and Emily Arner married Evelyn A. Straussberger. She is a daughter of Samuel M. Straussberger and Amelia Berger. Now things get tricky, Samuel M. Straussberger is a son of Joseph Albert Straussberger and Maude C. Haney. Maude C. is a daugher of Washington I. Haney and Emma Moyer, Washington I. Haney is a son of Lewis Haney and first wife Sophia Edgar, (another wandering shred of Irish? origins said to be from Columbia Co. PA, lots of Edgars, Edgers etc. there but no finding any record of her parents. And I have her birth and death dates and maiden name and location of where she "came from" from her 1852 burial record...BUT CAN'T FIND HER PARENTS!)
So Lewis is my direct ancestor, gg grandfather, so I am obviously related by blood to at least some of the Eaches in Carbon, but not a direct descendant of the Eaches...I don't think. Unless there is a connection way back in the mist of time in Ireland? Likely since we all get back to the same 2/4/6 etc. original uprights.

I guess you could say I'm your cousin's?? cousin's?? cousin?

When I tell people my great grandfather, Henry Arner, wife Harriet Haney, sister of Washington I. Haney, was born 213 years ago, they think I'm crazy. In my DAR application on another line, Klase, I had to write an explanatory note because at first they had a hard time believing that I had so few generations back to the Patriot. Same thing, Henry b. 1795, married twice, Harriet was his second, she was 21 when they married in 1856, my grandmother was born 1867. The math is astounding. ;o)

Have you done any on site research in Chester County? I may just get down there, (about 4 hours away from here) next summer and scrounge around to see if I can find anything. The Haneys were to my knowledge Evangelical Lutherans or Reformed, if Lutheran, which it seems likely, those records are difficult to find.

I found Amos W. E. Haney, (s/o Lewis and Violetta Eaches) in Steubenville Ohio. Not exactly him but his widow and children. Have you tried that direction in your searches for Eaches? And how would you be related to Richard Allen Eaches if you are?

I wish I would have seen this sooner, but I had gotten away from researching for a while and just got started again. My great grandfather was James Garfield Eaches, his father was Adam Eaches.... and I think, based on census information and your helpful post, Adam's parents were Adam Eaches and Sarah Reinhart. I don't have much on this side of the family. Adam and Sarah are the farthest back I've gotten so far. I'd love to find out more though.

Hi!

That would be great! My email is rae6921@hotmail.com. I've been told there is a record of much of the family history that someone within the family has already worked on, but I have no idea who has it to be able to track it down so any information you could give me would be very helpful. I've never been able to get back very far with the Eaches side, and to be honest, I was distracted by my grandmother's side since information was easier to find.

Hope to hear from you soon!
Rachel
