Where does our name come from?
Hi all Dzambas out there,
This is first attempt to communicate between all of us with this unusual name. I will try to mediate the discussion on this bulletin board until we all figure out how do we fit together. If you wish to help I would be very happy to share with you the present extent of our files.
My branch of Dzamba family comes from small village in eastern Slovakia called Kurov, near small town Bardejov. We also have some unconfirmed information that the name has origins in Rumania.
Thank you very much for your assistance,

I, too, am researching Dzamba from near Bardejov. My grandmother was a Dzamba and was born there. Here name was Anstastia Dzamba, nicknamed Anna.

I am also looking for the same answer - where does our name come from? My last name, however, is spelled DZAMBO. Do you know if this could be the same family? I do not know from which village my grandparents came - they were Slovak but at the time they came to the United States, in the late 1880's, they came from Austria/Hungary.

Your name may be derived from Dzambova what is female name for female of family name Dzamba. Slovakia was part of Austro Hungarian Empire, so this looks like a match to me.

Hi -

I have heard that our branch hails from Slovakia as well. It is quite an unusual name, and I don't know if any of us Dzambas' out there have gotten to the bottom of it yet. I have also heard "Ruthenia".

Dsamba - Dzambo Family.
My ancestors include the family name of Dszmba -Dzambo. My g-g-grandmother was Anna Dzamba born 17 Jan 1837 in Lenartov, Slovakia. Her father was Andrej Dzamba, born 11 Nov 1799 also in Lenartov and her mother was Maria Blyanda, b. 22 Feb 1802, in Lenartov. Lenartov is very close to Kurov and Bardejov. Furthermore, this family migrated to the town of Hostovice, Slovakia (Hosztovicza) in the 1830s.

Hey guys,
Lubomir Dzamba is my dad. I was just doing some research and i found this:

"Dzamba" in Tibetan means barley, that cereal Tibetans grow and love to much.

The salesman is selling the flour made with the barley.

"Dzamba-la". It means "the God of Wealth" in Tibetan.

Not sure if this helps answer any questions :-),

My grandmother, I believe, came from the village of Varadka, close to Bardejov; there could be a relationship.
