Seeking information on Moses Dyas born around 1800 in Ireland, moved to Canada then the US. Had approximately nine children and was married to Elizabeth McKeown (McCuen). Eventually died (1880s) and buried in Illinois.

Seek contact with other descendants to share information.

David,

I believe we might be connected somehow as I am the great-great-great granddaughter of Alice McQuen whose sister, Elizabeth was married to Moses. I would love to talk to you about what information you have on him or Elizabeth so far. I have really been stumped because I have seen five variations of Alice and Elizabeth's maiden last names. My email address is srwood0130@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, Do you know if Moses Dyas had any siblings? Where in Ireland he was born? Where in Illinois he settled or is buried? I'm trying to see is any info you have might tie my Dyas family to yours. If indeed there is a connection, a brick wall I have been staring at would be starting to come down. Here's hoping.....

Felicia,

Unfortunately, I do not know who Moses Dyas siblings were. But, I do know a few things. I do know that before settling in Illinois, Moses and his wife lived in Nova Scotia for a little bit I believe. Also, I do know a few kids Moses and his wife Elizabeth had. Their children's names were Margaret, Elizabeth, John, Jane, and Caroline.

Furthermore, I can tell you that Moses and his wife lived just down the street from Elizabeth
s sister, Alice and her husband Peter Michel. They lived in Shabbona, IL. I can also tell you that both Moses and his wife are buried down at the Old English Cemetary just outside Shabbona (this is the same cemetary where Elizabeth's sister Alice is buried). Unfortunately, niether Moses nor his wife Elizabeth had an obituary that was recorded with Shabbona (as I have extensively tried to look for it). Furthermore, their gravestones only provide us the death year. Moses' gravestone said he lived from 1800-1882 will Elizabeth lived from 1809-1870.

I am sorry this does not help more.

But, I myself have been struggling with my grandmother, Alice's line as well, trying to find where in Ireland she came from. I thought if I knew where Moses and his wife were from I could know where she was from.
