What is the origin of this name, husbands grandfather Dyar died in Okla. early 1900's, want to know where he came from "Alfred Dyar", married "Effie R Hilton' she was from Kansas. Husband is Donald Ray Dyar deceased 1998. Children want to know.

Alfred Dyar (born in Indiana in 1862) is the son of Alfred Edward Dyar (b. 22 May 1821 in Greene Co., IN and died 4 Dec 1862 in Terre Haute, IN). He married Catharine McConnell on 27 Dec 1846 in Owen County, IN {named spelled Dyer on record in court house}. The children were: Mary [Mollie]Catherine Dyar born 27 October 1849; James Fletcher Dyar b. 31 Dec 1852; Jerome Bonapart Dyar b. 15 Jan 1855; Robert Edward Dyar b. 4 May 1857; Sarah Arabelle Dyar b. 25 Oct 1848; and Alfred Dyar, Jr. b. 15 Jan 1862. [The birth dates are taken from Catharine McConnell Dyars's pension records for her minor chldren, after her husband Capt Alfred E. Dyar (Union Arm Company "F", 71st Indiana Volunteers) died.
