DWYER DONOVAN CONECTION OHIO/AUSTRALIA

Surnames: DWYER DONOVAN MYLCHREIST WEIR
Hi,
I found some letters written during 1910-1912 from Australia to Frank Dwyer in Ohio. Frank was born in Greene County, Ohio in 1876. He was the son of James Dwyer, who was born in Tipperary, Holy Cross Parish in 1818, and emmigrated to the U.S. with several siblings: Timothy, Thomas, Honorah and Margaret and perhaps Martin. I think they landed in New Orleans about 1849. James's parents were John Dwyer and Margaret Fogarty, who supposedly had 14 children and di not leave Ireland themselves.

I am posting this information to see if anyone recognizes any names:

My Dwyer group probably arrived in the US around 1848-49, because they became citizens by 1854. (5 years). The two brothers I know about are James (1818-1902) and Timothy (1807-1875); the immigration paper also names a Martin; other sources refer to a brother Thomas, who died in the 1850's, and sisters Honorah and Margaret. The parents were John Dwyer and Margaret (possibly Mary...handwriting is hard to read) Fogarty, who did not leave Ireland and are said to have died when James was 6, so about 1824, and to have had 14 children.

These letters were written in 1910 and 1912, by "Your Australian friend Mary" of 4 Dock Road, Balmain, to Frank Dwyer in Ohio. She sends greetings to Frank's brothers and sisters and refers to things that make me think she had probably been in the US.

In the letters, Mary refers to Frank's cousins, Emily Donovan, and her brother James Donovan. She tells Frank that Emily has married Stephen Weir, May View, 109 View St., Annandale St., Sydney, N.S.W., and then in a PS says Emily and family have moved back to Balmain, and she is living in Short Street, number unknown. Also tells him James Donovan has not been a "good brother" and that Emily had not heard from him in 2 years. Apparently neither has Frank, and I infer that James may be in the U.S. Emily's mother has died, but it doesn't say when or where. Also, Emily has undergone an operation in Prince Alfred Hospital, and had heart problems.

Mary has a brother named Jim, with a son named Roy Daniel, who was 2 in 1910. She makes her living through "musical engagements."

In 1910, Mary is preparing to marry John (Jack) Mylchreist, who is "private nursing at home" and living at 235 Brunswick Street, Manchester, England. She's a bit apologetic that he's Church of England and a Mason (underlined). By 1912, she says she's finally getting married, and is in the midst of preparations.

She also refers to a family photo which she apparently sent wit the letter, and identifies the people in it as:
Bessie, Jack, Susie, Jim, Alice, Nellie, Mary, Dad, Mother, Millie, Kathleen, Annie, Veronica.

Finally, she refers to a Mr.. Tiffin Walker who wrote to Frank about sister Millie.

It's amazing how much information is in this one letter (either one 5 page or 2 incomplete, I can't tell), and 1 page of another.
I guess a Dwyer married a Donovan, but this is all I know for now. Does anything ring any bells?

Thanks!

Pat Dwyer
