My name is Harold Clarke originally of Detroit, MI.

My grandmother was Belle Dwelle Clarke, sister of John (Jack) Dwelle who was married to Dorothy Dewlle. John and Dorothy were Gerald’s parents.

My uncle, Raymond Clarke went into business with Gerald and founded Ambro Ambulance Corp in Detroit. Their first office was located in an apartment complex in Detroit in a basement office which is the office in which Gerald Dwelle was shot and killed in January of 1975.

Ambro’s office subsequently moved to a converted gas station across from The Detroit Medical Center and was run by Gerald’s brother, Jack. The business folded in the late 1980’s after a billing issue with Medicare (or Medicaid) for which my Aunt (Esther) tried to help bail out with a loan for $10,000.00.

The last of the the siblings of Gerald’s fater died appx 3 years ago in Southfield, Michigan. His name was Jerome and he was the youngest. He died at 90 something years of age.

Other paternal uncles and aunts of Gerald included Esther, William, George, Belle, Helen.

Their parents were George Bradwell and Mamie Cummings Dwelle. They lived at 5439 Canton Avenue in Detroit which was the family homestead until Esther died in 1989.

My first cousin, George Clarke is now the keeper of the Dwelle Family Bible which was given to him in 1985 by my Aunt Esther during the week of our grandmother Belle’s funeral.

Hi Harold,

I went to law school with George Dwelle Lyons, who is the great-grandson of George Bradwell Dwelle. I have been doing research on the Dwelle family since 1996 and have numerous documents related to their family history. I am currently looking for information on Edwin Dwelle the brother of George Bradwell Dwelle. Based on oral history, he was a Pentecoastal preacher in Clearwater, Florida. I have not located his death certificate in Florida and I know he worked as a Pullman Porter in Indiana. Do you know if there is any information on him in the family Bible? Also, I have a marriage certificate from Georgia for George Bradwell Dwelle and Mamie Blodgett on April 30, 1895 in Augusta, Georgia. I have not been able to locate Mamie's parents, so maybe her last name was Cummings. Is this information in the family bible? I am just trying to reconcile some of my research. Let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Mark.

My name is Harold Clarke. Your grandfather (John) was my grandmother's brother. My grandmother was Belle (Dwelle)Clarke who died in 1985.

I rememmber meeting you when you were a toddler at your grandparents house in the 1960's. You were just coming off a little accident (Mark vs hot stove). Your grandmother (Dorothy) was explaining to me what had happened.

If I remember correctly, your mother's name is Joyce.

Your dad and my uncle (Raymond) (and a few others) had started Ambro Ambulance Company which began in an apartment complex next door to what was then Spain Junior High. The business subsequently moved into a converted service station across the street from the Detroit Medical Center.

I am currently living in the Miami area, but I do have many fond memories of my childhood in Detroit.

Aunt Esther gave my cousin George (Clarke) the Dwelle Family Bible in 1985 which he had restored. In it, you will be able to find birth records of your grandfather John and his siblings.

I haven't spoke to George in many years, but his brother and I still speak from time to time. I am quite sure that he can give me George's contact info if you would like it.
