Marvin Earl
Dutton Nov. 6, 1922- Aug. 2, 2009 A resident of Pacifica for 47 years, died August 2, 2009. Marvin was born November 6, 1922 in
Mullen, NE. He was a WWII veteran, served in the
Army Air
Corps, and received the Bronze Star. He graduated from Sacramento State
College in 1951 with a BS in social work, and then worked for the
California Youth Authority as a parole officer in the
Watts neighborhood in
LAA, and later at
Preston School of Industry in Ione. He married Janice
Dole on Aug. 28, 1954. Their son Norman was born in June 1956. In 1957, Marvin received his MSW from UC
Berkeley. He then worked at the
Los Guillicos CYA facility. In 1960, the family moved to Pacifica when Marvin became a school counselor for the
Laguna Salada School District, where he worked until 1982. Marvin enjoyed many hobbies, including traveling, beekeeping, raising and showing purebred dogs, gardening, volunteering with the National
Park Service, ushering for the San Francisco
Opera and
Ballet, and especially activities with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Janice, on August 5, 2008. He is survived by his son, Norman, daughter-in-law, Karen, and grandchildren, Eric and Valerie
Dutton. A Memorial will be announced at a later date. Donations in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Pacifica Performances.
