My grandmother (who is getting quite old) has always wanted to know more about her biological mother so I'm hoping to help her do so.
My grandmother was born MARY ANN DUNLOP on August 31, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The only information she has on her mother is that she was a young, unwed girl from Northern Ireland who was working as a nursemaid for a couple in Toronto. She had recently immigrated to Canada.
When my grandmother was born, her mother was allowed to remain with her for 6 months to breastfeed, but was then apparently deported back to Ireland. She would be staying with her mother and 2 younger brothers, and her mother would not or was unable to take "the baby".
My search of passenger lists show that her birth mother may be named MARY ELIZABETH DUNLOP or NORA DUNLOP. She was probably born around 1914, give or take a few years.
If anyone has these names, or a DUNLOP of their family tree who was born around 1914, came to Canada and then returned to Ireland, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE contact me.
Thank you.
Lindsay
