Dumesnil Family

My wife's grandmother on her fathers side was Lydia Marie Dumensil daughter of Joshua Theodore Dumesnil and Bertha Cecile Hebert. She grew up in Franklin, La and graduated from Franklin High School in 1926 or 1928. She married Eugene Joseph Watkins and moved to Groves, Tx where he worked at Texaco. We have been to the old house near Baldwin where there is three or four huge live oak trees that are registered in the Louisiana Tree Registry. I believe that Joshua Theodore her father was an overseer at the Alice C Plantation.

But I can picture him in my head. I have really no photos of him.
Alfred Dumeney was also my Great Great Grandfather. My information was that he was born in Canada in 1840 and by 1870 he was living in Saginaw, Michigan USA. The 1880 census also showed him in Saginaw and he seems to have married Mathilde Legros in Saginaw around 1880. My belief is that he died in Michigan around 1893 as Mathilde remarried and had additional children with another man.

I too would love to know more about him, especially if his true surname was Dumesnil.

My mother was a Dumesnil, they came from the area between Baldwin & Jeanerette. We just had a reunion of the
Dumesnil family in the country at the old house, built around
1830's. I come from one of the brother, Joseph Odil Dumesnil.
I do not have my book with me at thid moment, I have a book
just on the Dumesnils. I think there were seven children. The Father was Joshua Theodore Dumesnil, mother was a
Langlinais( Adelaide).

Do you know of the Dumesnil that was a furniture craftsman in Louisiana around 1850? I own two corner cupboards that I was told were in the early governors mansion. I would just like to know a bit more about this craftsman in case I want to sell the cupboards. They are superb craftsmanship. Gorgeous. I am going to get them appraised.
