I am interested in the Edmond Duggan born 2/19/1832. Do you have any futher information on him? I have a g grandfather born in Tipp Town Baptized @ St. Michaels 2/28/1868 who married a Margaret Regan in Oolo/Solohead on 10/13/1864. His father is listed as Edmond Duggan, farmer, deceased. If this were your Edmond Duggan born in 1832 he would have been 32 at the time of his marriage. But you show Nicholas as the father...Do you have any further info?

during my research I have found that we are related. I am dealing with a Duggan who married a Duggan. Robert Hugh Duggan (b 1793) married Mary Jane Duggan (b1796). Mary Jane's father was Robert Duggan (b 1760 in Ulster)who married Margaret Dunn (b 1771). Robert's father was Hugh Duggan (b 1740 Ulster) and married Margaret Wilson (b 1749).

I believe Wilson and Mary Jane were siblings.
I am still trying to find info on Robert Hugh Duggan. I don't know if Mary Jane and Robert Hugh were related or different group of Duggan's.
If you come across any info I would love to hear from you.
Thanks
Joy

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd let you all know you have a new Administrator in myself.

My Duggan link is through my mother and the line so far is from Co. Wexford, Ireland (my location).

All I would ask is that wherever possible you post WHO, WHERE and WHEN!

For those in the US/Australia/Canada and New Zealand etc. please consider that more often than not your Towns are usually named after those of immigrant Ancestral homes (from the UK and Ireland in a lot of cases).
If your search is in say Birmingham PLEASE State whether it's in the UK or ALABAMA (or Wherever) if you get my drift.

Please identify your Country of search for this reason.

Other than that, WORK AWAY!

Philip,
Here is some info about a distant relative of mine, and I have assumed that his mother was a Duggan. I wrote a letter to London years ago to try to find info, but to no avail. I may have some more information on his unit, and their involvement in the War in the Peninsula.
Pat Kowaleski
Denver, Colorado
patrickekowaleski@gmail.com

Henry Duggan Wood, the father of Rose Hannah Wood, was born about 1790 in County Meath and apprenticed to a shoe maker where he worked for 7 years before running away and enlisting as Henry Duggan, which was the name on his discharge papers. He received a silver medal for fighting at Badajoz (4/6/1812), Salamanca, (7/22/1812), and Barcelona (?).He fought with Wellington and was wounded at Quatre Bras (6/16 or17, 1815) just prior to the Battle of Waterloo. Only about a third of Wellington’s troops were British, many troops having disbanded at the end of the War in the Peninsula in 1814.
His home was in the W ½, W ½ of lot 7, Concession 6, Metcalfe Twp., Middlesex, County, Ontario, Canada.

From my Grandmother, who got the story from her mother, Mary Ellen McMahon:
“Henry Duggan Wood received a silver medal with 3 bars and the name of 3 battles on it. Salmonica (sp), Barsalona(sp) and Badagoe(sp). He was to have been in Waterloo but was sent to Quatre Brasse (sp), three days before to keep Napoleon from crossing the stream and was wounded so they sent him to England an gave him his discharge, with honor. He carried a bullet in his leg to the day he died.”

Yes, I have a Duggan great grandfather under those criterea and I've never had access to British military records.

John James Duggan born about July 23, 1832 in Tralee, Kerry County, Ireland.

He served in the British army during the crimean war and we highly suspect that he was at Sabastipol (sp?) during the Battle of the Light Brigade time. Family history says he was in that battle (with the Light Brigade) and received a Victoria Cross. This would be highly unlikely as he was a poor Irish boy (not calvary) who was suppose to have entered the British Army at age 15. He did receive a metal for sure.. but most likely the one everyone received in the Crimean War.

John Duggan lived through the very bloody Crimean War and then moved to Charleston, South Carolina in America just in time for the start of the Civil War. What luck.

I have his life pretty documented from Charleston on, but have no real info from Ireland or any British military records. If passed down family lore has any credibility, John James Duggan would have been in the British Army sometime around the years of 1847- and sometime before 1857 when he moved to America.

If your records sheds any light on his British military service, it would indeed be a breakthrough. Unfortunately I have no pictures of him at all.

Sandra Beach

You will need to refer to the Reg. Number and page but this information will give you the location of where they lived at the time (Residence).

From this you might be able to find elsewhere the nearest Church in the area who might furnish you with the information on siblings etc.. Use the information within the Baptism register to find the names of Sponsors who might just be a relative.

There are ways and means that are not as expensive as you might think!

The only Jeremiah DUGGAN's Registered in the London (Surrey) area that I can find are these:

(i) Jeremiah DUGGAN b. Sept. Quarter 1860 Vol. 1d page 603

(ii) Jeremiah DUGGAN b. Dec. Quarter 1864 Vol. 1d page 708

Both of the above are registered in the Greenwich District.

Then there is this one:

(iii) Jeremiah DUGGAN b. Dec. Quarter 1865 Vol. 1c. Page 467

This one is registered in the Stepney area.

The first two would indicate that the area you call Thornton would in fact be Thornton Heath which is located about 7 miles outside of Central London. These Records are held within what is now the London Registration District.
I am trying to find some information on Charles Duggan who I believe lived in surrey, england (possibly migrated form Ireland) with his wife Julia McCarthy. They had a son Jeremiah born in thornton, surrey in 1861 or 1862. He migrated (?) to Australia and married Mary ann Lindsey. We have no records and would like to know if there were anymore children. If anyone can steer me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Jeremiah Duggan would be my great grandfather.

Jeremiah Duggan born in 1861 or 1862 in Thorton Heath Surrey, England. His parents Charles Duggan and Julia McCarthy. Jeremiah worked as a farm servant for John and Emma Walter. John and Emma lived at 26 Furza Road Croydon, Surrey England. I'm not sure when Jeremiah left England for Australia but he did marry Mary ann Lindsey on the 26th December 1887 at Hawthorn, Melbourne, Victoria, Aust. He died in 1930 in Orbost, Victoria, Aust. His occupation in Aus was Dealer - Miner. That's really all the info I have. Would love to find out more.

I spent quite a lot of time with Ole's first cousin Sofie Stuefloten Heins(Paul Stuefloten's daughter). I was pretty young at the time but took notes... they've given me clues on where to look.
What information do you need?

I would love to see you powerpoint, and anything else you have. I have some photos that used to belong to my grandmother, Ann Stuefloten Thornton (later Bishop). I have them scanned on a disc and would be happy to share. They include Martin, Sever, John, & Mary (I think that would be your Mary??).
I have some information on Paul's family that I got from Sofie and her sister Olive. Sofie also told me about Karen Broste and her family, and I've found a little on the Broste's in the census records.
I agree - capturing information and sharing it is incredibly important. For some reason I was bitten by the genealogy bug when I was 8,and I've been collecting information ever since. I would love to share what I have and collect more to fill in the holes.
Please e-mail me at musicchilds@sbcglobal.net so we can arrange how best to share what we have so far.
I'm excited to have a change to get to know you and the stories you have from that branch of the family.
Christy Landers Childs, Great granddaughter of Ole Stuefloten
I would appreciate anything you have. I have very little on Paul and Sofia. I only have one picture of Ole taken in 1967. I have a Stuefloten history written by one of Annie Stuefloten's daughters that says "Olie"?? and his brother Louis left home and joined a Wild West Show; that they left the show in Santa Barbara and that is where Ole married Louise Field, Augut 1901.

I have put together a PowerPoint presentation from the pictures I got from my Grandmothers book of Ole's brothers and sisters as far down in those generations as I could go. I would be happy to send that to you if you would like a copy.

I think it is a shame the cousins on that side never knew each other so it is important to capture whatever we can and save it for the next generation.

Joy Cota Hallof, Granddaughter of Mary (Marie) Stuefloten.

They later lived in Leixlip. Celbridge, Maynooth, & Leixlip are all in Co. Kildare and all small towns in close proximity to each other. Anyway, I would like to put more pieces of the puzzle together if I can, and would appreciate any information anyone can provide me with.

Thanks!

Duggan - Smith family of Elmhurst and Glen Falls, NY

I'm trying to help my nephew learn something about the ancestry of his father who's been estranged for years. All we know is the following: My nephew's grandfather's name was Harold Vincent Smith and he lived in Elmhurst, NY into the 1980's. Also, the father of WWF wrestler Hacksaw Jim Duggan is supposedly a brother (or half-brother) to HV Smith. There's also a story that the Smith family surname was originally Somerset, and that it was changed to Smith either upon arrival in the U.S. (in the early 20th century) or sometime later. Any info about current or past family members, country of origin, surname history, etc. that might help my nephew understand his family's roots would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello Bob

Have you made any more progress on the Duggans?
I think I may have e-mailed you about 6 years ago. I'm Mary Duggan-I did get a copy of Mary Meaghan's Death certificate, it indicates she was daughter of Julia Sullivan and Michael Sullivan, married to James Duggan.
My e-mail is mary.duggan@det.wa.edu.au
