I am the great-granddaughter of Alexina Dufour, her children being Reno Dufour and Rina Dufour (married to Robert L. Pelletier). Rina (now deceased) was my biological maternal grandmother. If we are both barking up the same tree, so to speak, and you are still seeking info (judging based upon the date of your post), I have a pretty extensive hand drawn graphic of the family tree. Feel free to contact me via email, as I'd love to exchange info.

Hi Joseph,

Saw your post and thought I'd give it a chance that you might still be on ancestry.com although this post is way back to 2000. Looking for information on the grandmother, related to Victor Dufour of St. Paul, MN (born around 1862) and wondering if there is Native American in my line as well.

Many thanks,

Dan

My Father, Lonnie Joseph Whitfield, was a cousin ofMarie Eliska Whitfield and visited with her from time to time; last being near San Antonio, I believe.

Is there oral family history as to why Eliska's parents went to St. Tammany Parish to be married? I'm assuming it was an elopement. However, surely there must have been a relative on one side or the other that assisted them to go so far away from Plaucheville, La. Any assistance on the line of William Whitfield would be greatly appreciated. Marileas@live.com
Wow. I posted the original post almost fourteen years ago. Believe it or not I have not been back to this site since March 2000. It's my loss, my regret, my sadness. That's because it looks like we're all related here. I intend to try the email links, hope they still work. I am in sporadic contact with my Aunt Shirley, mentioned a few times here. My sister Colleen is also, of course, naturally very interested in this. My current email is 44sunfire@gmail.com.

Amelia Dufour

I am not a family member, but I have some information that you might like having, Julie. I realize you're looking for Amelia Dufour but I have some info on Joseph Biamonte - and sometimes having information about one can lead to info about the other. Joseph Biamonte owned the property that is now the famous Cornstalk Fence Hotel in the French Quarter, although it was a different building than the one which stands there now. He most certainly not the man who installed the Cornstalk Fence, which was designed in 1860. Here is a link to the chain of title to the property:

http://www.hnoc.org/vcs/property_info.php?lot=18568

Marie A. and Aimee Christine Biamonte (the daughters) inherited the property and appear on the record.

It may be of great help, it may be useless - but hopefully it's a clue!

Best -

Randy Bibb
www.tourcreole.com

I Am looking for information about Amelia Dufour who immigrated to New Orleans with her husband Giuseppe(Joseph) Biamonte. They came in 1832 with their 2 daughters Marie Antoinette and Aimee(Jeanne C). Evidently Amelia(Aumee) died soon after arrival. The family history indicates that she was from the house Of Bernadotte therefore related to the King of Sweden. Giuseppe was a schoolmate of Napolean III. He fought with the group of Carboneri in Italy and was exiled to France..I think the Bordeaux region where he married Amelia. They came to New Orleans in 1832.I think she died after a year in New Orleans, but I cant find anything about her. Giuseppe died in 1858.Julie Dameron

Amelia Dufour b 1800

Giuseppe died in 1858.Julie Dameron
tyebasil@aol.com

Re: DUFOUR/DUFORCE Peter Detroit River Area

You can find reference to his daughter Catherine in the Metis records kept by the French until 1800 or so. It also mentions a sister of the same father being born/baptized. I believe she was one of four children born from Peter Henry Dufour b:13 May 1754. My estimation of four children comes from independent research that indicated 4 children of the same Indian mother "Sophie Couvillon" under the patriarchal name Dufor(t) which I believe is a misspelling or incorrect transcribing of a signature.

The metis directory can be found online here: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/dgarneau/metis-c.htm

and the research sample of a related name is here: http://www.bouvette.com/family/DUFAULT_Therese_1784/searchin...

Pierre Dufour Jr's Marriage Date

Hello all,
I am looking for a marriage date via certificate or newspaper for Pierre Dufour b 1754 to Pierre Dufour Dit Bonvivant and his wife Marie Charlotte Gloria. I believe Pierre Jr. married late in life but previous to his daughter Catherine's birth on Sept 15, 1805. His family would have been present at Fort Detroit when it was surrendered to the English. I believe his wife was a native woman. The name Pierre is quite common which has limited my search capabilities.

You do realize that MOST of the Swiss DuFours were French that left during the Huguenot migrations? Settled in mostly PROTESTANT countries, Switzerland, England, Netherlands, Germany, even Russia and North America in New England/Canada but even as far south as Florida? So, very close kinship with Canadian/Arcadian and so called Creole DuFours would be suspected.

Will you please look and see if there is a Reginald Dufour, Sr. in your book. That is my grandfather. There should be a picture of him standing next to a bull. he was from Plaucheville. His dad was Curtis Dufour Sr. Thank you.
