I do know that her father name was Shepard Pealstein Dubois and her mother name was Lucille Pullen-Nugent. If anyone know anything about these names please email me.

Matthias DuBois and his wife, Catherine (m.1769)
I am trying to untangle a DuBOIS mystery. Matthias DuBOIS and his wife, Catherine CARSHON/CORRISHON/CROCHERON/CORSSEN (among the many possibilities!) lived on State Island. The DuBOIS genealogy does not say where on the island, just that they lived on Staten Island! They had several children while living there:
Margaret b/bp 11 Oct 1770
Louis/Lewis b/bp 2 Jan 1772
Daniel b/bp 28 Feb 1776
Matthias Jr. b@1776
John b/bp 26 Jan 1777
Mary b/bp 26 May 1779
Again, neither the DAR record for Matthias nor the DuBOIS genealogy shed any light on the sources of these dates.

Wife Catherine died 18 Jul 1780, presumably on Staten Island, though the proof is not given. Matthias married 2nd Margaret MARSHALL in 1781 and had another 6 children. About 1792, the family moved to Broome County, NY.

I would like to find the baptismal records for Matthias' first 6 children, complete (hopefully!) with the names of their baptismal sponsors in hopes of learning a bit more about who Catherine actually might be. Does anyone have access to the church records to look up those baptisms? And/or the death record for wife Catherine? Any suggestion as to where I might find this information? These folks have been a puzzle for far too long!

Many thanks!
Liz DuBois

DNA results: Chretien Du Bois descendants

DNA results are now in for a proven descendant of Chretien Du Bois and, subject to confirmation by additional DNA analysis, it appears that the New York DuBoises and South Carolina DuBoses are, in fact, completely unrelated family lines.

Over the years a number of researchers have suggested that the two families shared a common ancestry in France. That possibility seems less likely now.

These results are actually good news to anyone who does not have solid, proven documentation of their lineage. Relying on the spelling of our surname has proven to be an unreliable indicator of true lineage. This is particularly true for those tracing their heritage through Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama. Most of the Dubois/DuBoise families in this region are now proven to descend from Isaac Dubose of South Carolina.

DNA results of the Chretien descendant can be found on our project website at http://dubose.dna.rdgriffith.com

We encourage other Chretian descendants to join the project and help confirm the various lines within this great family.

I'm not SURE the
other Dubois lines in N.Y. have ACTUAL PROOF beyond ANY
doubt as to that either.

It may be for them but I've never seen REAL PROOF.

Darlene T.
Harris Alton DuBois - Colleton Co, SC

I am starting on a friend's genealogy, and one of his family names is DuBois. His grandfather was Harris Alton DuBois (B: 18 MAY 1927-D: SEPT 1971). Harris' parents were Alton DuBois (b:06 Jun 1906-d:Sep 1963) and Florence "Florie" Hudson (b:04 Dec 1904-d:11 Aug 1939). I believe that he had a brother named Eppie. Alton's father was John Boswell DuBois (b:17 Sep 1873-d:11 Nov 1925), but I'm sketchy on his mother, although she may have been Sarah Coldwell. They are all from the Colleton County, SC area. Please let me know if anyone has some helpful information! Thanks!!

IF POSSIBLE, I would like to obtain information on Macquaire duBois, Count de Roussy whose ancestor built the Castle de Roussy in 948, and added this title to his patronymic. Macqisaire's son, Hugh de Roussy, surnamed “le Cholet” perpetuated the line under the title of "Seigneurs duBois de Marne. The Castle de Roussy was situated in Artois, France where some suppose the name of "duBois" to have originated. There is a village in Luxemburg names "ROUSSY" and I believe in the Provence of Lorraine in France? I am "not asking" for any genealogy on the duBois family as there is much data on the family from Artois, France.
DuBois DNA Research

The DuBose/DuBois Surname DNA project was established in 2004 with Family Tree DNA and the Arizona Research Lab, leaders in the field of Genetic Genealogy. Although the project has been growing slowly, it has already helped several participants extend their family lineages and find new connections. The project website can be found at http://www.dubose.dna.rdgriffith.com

So far, the project does not include a proven descendant of Chretien DuBois. This is an open invitation to any male DuBois with a proven direct lineage to the DuBois descendants who settled in or around New Paltz, NY. The project will cover the cost of your initial DNA test.

There is a continuing debate among DuBois researchers about the relationship (if any) of Louis and Jacques DuBois, and Isaac Dubose of South Carolina. Comparative DNA studies can definitively establish the probability of common ancestry.

Please contact me for more information.

Robert Griffith
Administrator
DuBose-DuBois Surname Project

I have new info- hopefully will spark something from someone!
Therese Dubois came in to Philadelphia, PA on Sept.11, 1892 at the age of 10. She came on the ship the Illinois from Antwerp, Belgium. Her destination was "father, Frank (Francois) Dubois, 1034 N.4th St. (I think they are "4's").
Family lore says that she was very soon thereafter placed in Foster Care in Maryland. Don't know if her father was actually alive when she arrived or not.
She said her mother's name was Marie.

My father-in-law bought a book at a local library sale last week, and inside the book were newspaper clippings and 5 photographs of the engagement and marriage of Lt. Robert C. DuBois and Marcine E. Long of Barberton, Ohio. He would like to get these items back in family hands. If anyone has ties to this family, please email me. The wedding occurred December 28, 1962, at the Mogadore Christian Church. Lt. Robert Curtis DuBois was the son of Mr. & Mrs. W. R. DuBois of Akron, and Marcine Esther Long was the daughter of Mrs. Robert Schlemmer and Harry J. Long. The couple were going to make their home in Enid, OK, where Lt. DuBois was stationed at Vance Air Force Base, and Marcine was going to transfer from Ohio State University to Phillips University, Enid, OK, to complete her education.

Thank you for your help.

Lisa

Dubois daughter who married a Brannen ca. 1765?

Hello,

I am trying to find the parents of Timothy Brannen (Branen, Bran[n]an, Bran[n]in, Bran[n]on), b. ca. 1765. He may have been the son of a Dubois daughter.

http://www.finison.com/phpgedview/individual.php?pid=I1528&a...

He was in New Paltz, NY beginning in 1791, with the birth of his first son. He named a son Cornelius Dubois Brannen and a daughter Rebeccah Dubois Brannen, and his daughter Mary had a son Cornelius Bruyn Dubois Brannen. There is also a Dubois J. Brannen in the 1880 census who I have not yet connected, but is probably a grandson of Timothy Brannen.

So, it seems very likely that Timothy's mother was a Dubois. Does anyone know of any Dubois women born between 1720 and 1745 who married a Brannen?

--Michael White

Marie Antoinette Yvonne DuBois

Any information (or leads) on this person who was in Richmond, Henrico Co., VA in May 1895 is needed to overcome my 20 year brickwall. Marie Antoinette Yvonne DuBois was reportedly born in France. She was married to (or had a child with) Alexander Bruce Gordon, an individual born in Scotland. I know this is an odd combination. Their child, Albert Raye Gordon, born about May 31, 1895, was not kept, perhaps due to some fatal accident to the parents shortly after his birth. Another child of this couple might be a female. Any help on who these individuals were and their families would be so very much be appreciated.

Albert

Therese DuBois Belgium Orphan in Maryland??

I posted this about 7 years ago but still haven't found any info- can anyone help? My husband's great-grandmother, Therese DuBois came over from Belgium in the 1880's, around 1888. Apparently she came over without her parents and they died shortly after or before they saw her again. She ended up in foster care in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born in 1882 in Belgium and died in 1978 in Montclair, NJ. Her parents were Marie and Frank. Does anyone know anything about her or her family?
Thank you!
Polly Neher Breithaupt

Kidney Disease

My brother and I are descendents of Louis DuBois through his son Abraham and grandson Abraham who moved to Somerset County, NJ. My brother has recently been diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) which is a very rare form of kidney disease. In plain talk his kidneys are like a sieve where the holes are now plugged up. He will be beginning dialysis in a few months and will eventually need a transplant. I am investigating a link and was wondering if any other DuBois descendents have this form of disease or something similar. The link that I am investigating is a descendent from the unproven ancestry line of Chretien who died of the same disease in 2004, and who, if the ancestry is correct, was our 24th cousin.
Jacqueline Wells Lubinski

Looking for information on Rose Amelia LeBrecque, b. Abt. 1845 in Canada and her husband Thomas Benjamin Dubois/Wood, b. Abt. 1856 in Canada. I believe they are both from Quebec. They had two children in Canada, David Francis Wood, b. 1881 or 1883 and John William Wood, b. 1878. In abt. 1884 he killed a man in a bar and they fled Canada for NY. He changed his name to Wood. I am looking any information on their origins in Canada, locations, parents, etc.

DuBois & Konrad Families( Lithuania/ E Prussia/ Russia)

When my grandfather's family immigrated to the US about 1915 from Lithuania, many of his aunts, uncles, cousins stayed in what was then Russia, now Lithuania and Germany a some decades earlier. His mother, Augusta Pauline DuBois(wife of Julius Daniel Konradt), though of French Huguenot descent, spoke German at home. I know that she had brothers, sisters & cousins who stayed in the region of Kelme (Raseiniai) I found the grandson of one long lost cousin who settled in Uruguay after/or during WWII, but I know that there must be more out there. Please respond if your DuBois or Konrad family was from this region. THank you!

Josephs parents were Thomas Durbois and Anasthasie Feuilletault The moved to Lawrence,Mass and had a large family. Both Joseph and Adelle were born in Canada. I wish to find more about Josephs parents because when they married he used the name Dubois and not his birth name of Durbois. Any information would be helpfull.

We are looking for a male DuBois with a proven lineage to Chretien DuBois of New York who is willing to participate in our DuBois/DuBose Surname DNA project.

DuBois descendants in Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee who believe they are connected to the New Platz, NY DuBois line may, in fact, be descendants of Isaac DuBosc (DuBose), French Huguenot immigrant to South Carolina in the 1680s. Early results from our project have proven this to be so.

Are the NY and SC lines related? DNA tests can provide a definitive answer to this much-debated question.

Please contact me at admin@dna.rdgriffith.com if you are interested.

I know they were both in Stephenson Co, Illinois as a few of their children were born there. I know of at least two children: Rachel DuBois Luscombe and William Dubois. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for information on the DuBois family. My GGG grandmother was Catherine Aimee Celeste DuBois and she married my GGG grandfather in 1812 -- His name was Jean Marie Blondel. They were married in Baltimore, MD and I know for sure that Jean Marie and his parents were refugees from the french colony of Saint Domingue during the French revolution. The DuBois family probably were also refugees. HELP!!!!!
