My ma was Hester Aletta Venter, een oom was Sarel Du Plessis, en neefs Pieter, die meeste van die familie het in Vryburg gewoon. Yes I am related to the Gordan Noyce you mention in your post. He was my grandfather and made frequent trips on the castle liners to london.

Gordan and Dorothy Noyce lived in Durban where he was partner in Murray Smith Berande and Noyce accountants which became Delloittes. They had two children Michael and Megan. Megan Noyce married Kenneth MacKenzie but died soon after they had two daughters, when she choked on something while eating.
Michael had married Ken MacKenzie's sister also called Megan..(they did a swop) and had one son. Tragically, Megan was killed in road accident in Durban. Michael recovered and then went on to marry again and have 3 more sons, of which I am the youngest.

Michael died in 1995 and is survived by his second wife Diana (my mother).

Interstingly, the Du Plessis connection to the family is known and I have one or two of the original silver cutlery pieces produced in England with the duPlessis initials. These were handed down the family. I believe they made their fortunes in farming ostriches during the roaring 20-30's. Very fashionable then. I now reside in London.

Maar my pa was DANIEL WILHELM DU PLESSIS, gebore in Kaap Kolonie, 14 Mei 1906.oorlede 14 Mei 1997.My 2e naam,Dailina, was sy moeder se naam. Sy is oorlede toe my pa maar 7 jaar oud was, so ekt haar mooit geken nie. Ek wil ook baie graag my familie stamboom, wie ek is en waar ek vandaan kom, en my bloed familie,naspoor.My getroude van was TJADEN, maar ek is besig om my nooiensvan terug te neem.Hoop ek spoor my familie op. I have a charles Johannes duPLESSIS born 10 Nov 1812 and baptised 31 Jan 1813 in Graaff-Reinett who had two wives.
He first married Johanna Cathatina Adriana VENTER on 8 Aug 1830 also in Graaff-Reinett.
He second married Johanna Hendrina Aletta YZELE but I don't know when.
He had 11 children and his 9th child was Charl Johannes duPLESSIS. I have no birth date for him and no more info. I also have no death date for the first wife so he could be the child of either one. If his father was married first in 1830 and he was the ninth child he COULD have been born around the right time for you. The death cert of the father would say.

my grandfather was Petrus Jacobus duPlessis and it did not appear to be large on our duPlessis branch either. When I looked into his mothers side though it was VERY big for several generations - the Vand der Walt side. Is there a connection there for you?

I am working in Zambia, but see him when visiting.
Names in our fam, Pieter, Alwyn, Jacobus (du Preez branch)

Hi , my father is also Petrus Johannes Jacobus du Plessis (I think he is the 3rd in our family)and I was interested to know where it came from as I found it to be not a commin name for in the du Plessis family. We are from Oudsthoorn. My grandfather married Catharina Elizabeth van der Westhuizen.As far as I know his mother was a Stander.Another source told me that the PJJ might have come from the Du Preez family but we have no record.Let me know more please if you come across anything.

We are are researching our family tree and have reached as far back as circa 1847-1850 , the birth of Charles Johannes du Plessis, married to Petronella Margaritha Botha.We are trying to trace the parents of Charles Johannes du Plessis. Children born from this union were Wynand Petrus , Pieter Willem , Pieter Wynand ,Phillip Rudolph . Wynand Petrus had 3 sons. "Flip" (Phillip ?)( Carltonville, worked on mines), Pieter and Charl Johannes 1/1/1897.Pieter was an attorney in Stutterheim and had a son, also Pieter, born 1944 , who I believe was/is also an attorney.Charles Johannes was a doctor who studied at " the Royal College of Medicine " in Dublin in Ireland and who had a practice in Brixton , Johannesburg before relocating to Walkerville, South of Johannesburg where he spent the remainder of his days.He had the following children. Peter, Charl, Faith , Joy and Gene or Jean(Peter, Charl , Gene are all deceased) Can anyone help with tracing the parents of Chales Johannes du Plessis ?.

I am born Ophelia Du Plessis. My Dad is Kenneth Doughlas Du Plessis he is one of 5 children from Henry Freddy Du Plessis who is One of 5 Brothers. From what I know yes we are from the French Hugenots. Since the Arrival of 5 Du Plessis Brothers in SA. Some went to CT some Stayed and work on the Mines in Tvl. The sister And parens of the 5 Du plessis brother remained in France and are all over Amsterdam/france and Paris. We have a coucin in Wales who have all the details but it is very difficult to get this info from her.. Her husband has done the anestry trail from the migration to SA. Ek mag verkeerd wees maar ek dink die Distrik is Prins Albert en nie net Albert nie. Dit is in die Karoo waarheen van die du Plessis nageslag uitgewyk het en skaapboere geword het. My oupa. Jacobus Wynand du Plessis is ook daar gebore ±1882. Het nog nie veel meer inligting nie maar ons kan moontlik fanilie wees. My e-maail adres is Wynandre@wol.co.za indien jy my wil kontak.

Hi... I am trying to find the parents of Andrew H Duplessis, he was probably born around 1890 and in SA. I know he married Dorothy Nellie Page in 1917 in the Battle district of East Sussex England. They travelled back to SA and had at least 3 children, two of the boys named Jack and the other David Arthur DuPlessis.
Andrew died in SA aged around 35 years and his wife returned to the UK with her sons. The unnamed son emigrated to Australia. Jack and david(known as Arthur stayed in the UK)

Any help with Andrews family would be greatly appreciated.

I’m also looking in to the Du Plessis family. First Du Plessis in Cape Town was Jean Prieur Du Plessis and married in to the Viljoen Family

My Grand dad was Nicolaas Jacobus Du Plessis born in 1900
Not sure what happened with his first wife but later married Maria Magdalena van den berg. They had 2 kids Galie Du Plessis – Maried to Desmend L Goddard and a son Nicolaas Jacobus Du Plessis Maried to Unita Maria Du Plessis (Van Schalkwyk) (my mom and dad)
They all lived in South Wes Africa except my mom Unita,She was born in Port Elizabeth but whent to school with my Dad and Antie in Mariental

Yes the surname du Plessis originates in France. It means "of Plessis". Plessis being a place in France. One of the ways that people took surnames in the past was to refer to a place or geographical location.

I have some information on the South African du Plessis progenitor. I can send it to you if you are interested.

I was born in Pretoria SA and grew up in Cape Town SA.
Currently I reside in Provo, UT, USA and am majoring in Genealogy at Brigham Young University.

ENGLISH : try the records of the master of the supreme court for the area where your granfather lived and/or died. Older records are kept by the archives of various areas like provinces.

Johannes Christiaan Marthinus Daniel du Plessis was my oupagrootjie en ek het die familiebybel waarin hy die name van sy drie-en-twintig kinders aangeteken het. Jou ouma se pa Hendrik Stephanus (gebore 14.02.1854) was die vierde kind uit sy eerste huwelik met Geertruida Johanna van der Walt. Die enigste aantekenening wat ek teen sy naam het is dat hy na die Transvaal verhuis het.

Miskien kan ons inligting uitruil.

Hi there

Alwyn du Plessis is my uncle and he lives in Port Elizabeth. My father, Barend du Plessis, died a few years ago. They grew up in Marquard, Orange Free State.

My grandfather and grandmother was Koos and Anna du Plessis.

My father was married to Johanna Cloete and I have three brothers, Richelieu-, Jacgues- and Theo du Plessis.

Perhaps someone can find this info handy.

Actually I think this reply should go to Allan du Plessis. My Grandmother married Jack D'Elmaine (our spelling, and unsure of the origins) born July 1880, and her name was Florence Anderson. They eloped and married in 1900.
