My father was from Jo'burg, Middleburg. His father died in about 1930. I just wondered if anyone out there had any further clues. about the family line?
I believe my Great Grandmother was called Magdelena Elizabeta du Plessis......
Not much to go on I know.
David.

Thanks for the reply David, I thought there was a faint chance you were an Uncle who lives in Poole, Dorset. Your friendly, "hallo to all" greeting attracted my attention as it is typical of his nature. My late father was Colin Henry du Plessis, who was born in Barberton in 1920. His father was Nick du Plessis and mother Florence Delmaine. I do have a whole heap of info in a file if you are interested.

My wife convinced me this morning to start a family tree. I was very surprised to see that there are already some of you in this site.

I was born in 1950 and lived in Durban (South Africa) for most of my live. Spent some time in Pretoria and Benoni. Currently living in Cape Town, S.A.

My father (Carel Stephanus) hails from Northern Natal/Eastern Transvaal/Swaziland areas. I only got to know his one brother - Hendrik, who lived in Moolman circa 1960. Also have some family in Amsterdam (Eastern Transvaal) but I do not know them. The one Aunt was know as "Kleintjie".

My father passed away in 1977 in a car accident. He was 66 then. My mother is Sarah nee Lombard. She is still alive. Living with my sister Rosa (the youngest of 3 kids) in Benoni. My mother will be 85 this year in April.

My oldest brother is Andries Stephanus. He also lives in Benoni. He is 56 this year. My other brother (Daniel Benjamin) passed away 16 years ago - from cancer. He used to live in Vereeniging.

I will greatly appreciate any documentation that you might have on the "du Plessis's", or advice on how one should go about tracing your family tree.

All the best

Carel

Hi. Is there an email address that I can use to contact the Human Sciences Research Council department genealogy - (R.G.N.) Raad vir Geesteswetenskaplike Navorsing se afdeling genealogie.
I have just started to trace myfamily and am starting with my Dad who dies in 1945 (I think). His name was Johannes Jacobus du Plessis.
Thanks in advance for any pointers and help.
Cheers, Basil

The webaddress is www.hsrc.ac.za/

For some reason my system is too slow tonight to allow me a quick peep on their website. Perhaps you have more luck !

Hope you can find their e-mailaddress soon. I will try again later.

Surnames: Noyce, Du Plessis, Du Plessey, Bishop, Handley
Greetings.
My late Mother was related to a Mr Gordon Noyce of Durban and Johannesburg, through the Du Plessis or Du Plessey family.
Gordon Noyce worked in a bank, I believe and his mother was a Du Plessis or Du Plessey. He and his wife had a son and a daughter. I believe that Gordon Noyce's daughter was called Megan.
Gordon and Mrs Noyce visited London during the 1960s, but I don't know where the family are now and I would very much appreciate any news of them.
My mother was related to them through her Grandmother.
