Did he reside in the us permanently? Did he have a Social Security Card. If he did you can order the SSDI information (form at rootsweb) and find his parents names. Then write back to me. My Dubois also from this area of Canada. Libq@aol.com

Surnames: DuBois, Chenot
My DuBois ancestors came from France/Belgium area. Bronzemakers & artists. Henri either married or ran away with my greatgrandmother Emilliene (spelling) Chenot in late 1800's and came to build a home in Staten Island, NY in early 1900's. I believe he was also a jeweler in NJ or NYC. Had a rented room in Grenwich Village, an artist area, also.

I have a reunion of the chenots in louisville, ohio in 1915 There is a picture of rose chenot descendant of emile chenot. I think if you went back to france and found the brothers of george frederick chenot and worked the connections back you would find your family in connected to the chenots in ohio. hope that helps. rose was in louisville ohio in 1915.

Bob, You might look up Rosaire DuBois in the 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 census for MA and/or CT. Once you find the names of his parents you can go to www.familysearch.org and look up the 1881 census for Canada and hopefully find the parents there. My pepere was Joseph DuBois and was born in Hemmingford PQ in 1870. His family came to western MA to work in the cotton mills. Half his family stayed in MA while the other half returned to the area around St-Jean. I have been lucky searching the family back to France. Found that the original settler from France had the last name of Rondel. Bev

Bev, Thanks for the tip on familysearch.org. Since I orginally posted the message I had gotten a few leads and with your tip I have been able to make "The French Connection" (sorry, couldn't let that chance go by). I was able to locate info on earlier members and now have to work forward to get to my family. They were from PQ in Victoriaville and Warwick with previous mention of St Nicholas, Levis. Thanks again , Bob

Bob, You might want to return to familysearch.com. When I returned to the site, I looked at who my ancestor's neightbors were. I was able to find some of their siblings. A big coup was finding a grandmother living with one of the siblings with her approximate age. Bev

I have lived in Kipling, OH for many years. My father (William Brown) was born there too. His father was James Brown. They lived in a great big green house on the same side of the road as the church. I have never heard of the DuBois. I have a book written about the history of Kipling and do not see the DuBois noted. Do you know when your father was born and where he lived?
There are only 3 streets:McKinley- where the church is Primrose- Where the VFW now is (and mine used to be)
and i don't think the other one has a name (between McKinley and Primrose)
I have some old pictures of the mine and some of the miners. Did you dad or grandfather mine?

My father was Josephat Dubois, born 1904, in Adams MA. Some of his aunts and uncles moved back to Canada - St-Jean-sur-Richelieu or Hemmingford - while others settled in Adams MA which is in NW MA at the foot of the highest mountain in MA. I know of none that went to OH. There were many mills in the town at the turn of 1900 - cotton, woolen, paper. The immigrants loved getting an envelope at the end of each week with cash inside. My father had to quit school at 14 and work in one of the cotton mills. It was very common for most 14 year olds. Few went to college or even graduated from high school. The mills are all gone now. Only a lime kiln is still in operation. I live in Northern VA. Lots of jobs here. Bev Sherman
