Roots of the du Bois family
My family originates from the southern Flanders, Belgium, which centuries ago belonged to France. We can backtrack the origin to approx. 1520. I have found two brothers du Bois, Jacques and Louis, born in 1626 and 1627 in Wicres, County of Artois, France, and their father Chrétien. The brothers, Huguenots, emigrated to Ulster, New York. Wicres is located in what is still today France, but not very far from where my ancesters originate. I am trying to find out if these two branches were at one point related. Can anybody help ?

Re: Roots of the du Bois family
I am also from a Dubois Huguenot Family. They came from Herseau, Belgium to Canterbury, England. They were members of the Walloon or Friends Church at Canterbury.
The Parents were Pierre Dubois Sr. & wife Jeanne Desmullie. They had several sons-All married at Canterbury & all born at Herseau, Belgium. Their son Pierre Dubois married Catherine Clarisse & their daughter Hester Dubois who was born at Canterbury, married at Amsterdam, Holland to Claude Lemaistre, later Delamater. Shortly after their wedding in April 1652, They came to New York State & were later Patentees of harlem, New York.

Re: Roots of the du Bois family
Hello,
I understand that my grandfather, Otto DuBois,(from Alsace) Married to Josephene Vanderbosch (from Flanders) and immigrated to Canada in the late 1800's. My father, Rene Louis DuBois was born in New York.
Maybe somewhere along the line we are all related??

Re: Roots of the du Bois family
I have a Louis Du Bois born 10 April 1626 in Artois, France, son of Chretian Du Bois & Cornelia Brunel. They also had a son Jacques born 27 October 1628 in Artois, France. Could this be the connection you are looking for. They were both members of the Walloon Church. Louis married Catherine Blanchan on 10 October 1655 in Mennheim, Germany and Jacques married Pierrone Bentyn on 25 April 1663. I have more information on them if these are the ones you are looking for.

Re: Roots of the du Bois family
I also descend from the Louis Du Bois and Catherine Blanshan line through their son Solomon. I would especially like to hear from anyone who is working on this line. Thanks Ray

Re: Roots of the du Bois family
To Ray Van Orden. Since posting my original question, I have learnt that more than likely " my " du Bois branch originates from Waterloo, near Brussels, Belgium, and is not related to the ones you are referring to. Thanks anyway for answering.

Re: Roots of the du Bois family
Helping my stepfather learn more about the DuBois side of his family. He found some old notes written by his father, Louis Jeffries, that said his mother, Madeline DuBois, was of French Huguenot origin. He said that they went to Holland; came to this country in the Dutch Providence of NY and intermarried with the Delafields. I'm interested in learning more. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I know that there is the society in New Pfaltz NY - but I'm a long way from there!

Re: Roots of the du Bois family
Sheila:
Louis DuBois was the Ancestor. He was a Huguenot & his wife also. You would have to go backwards from your Dad's Grandmother.
There were also Catholic Dubois Families from Quebec.
