Josephine's father was William Allen Drumwright and her grandfather was Robert James. Robert James built the first Court House in West Plains Mo. He also built and pastored New Liberty Baptist Church. Robert James, William Allen, and Josie Glinn Drumwright are all burried at New Liberty cemetery. I do not have any siblings for Robert.

How interesting that you should mention "Rachel" I don't believe I am going to be any help to you but found this mention in the book THE DRUMRIGHT FAMILY TREE pg 38. This deals with the will of William Drumright Sr who made the will 21 May 1828 and died in October 1828 part of the inventory listing of this will found in Mecklenburg Virginia Will Book 11, 1826-1828
'The faithful slave "Rachel" who had been in the Drumright family since 1780 or before, was priced at $40.00. What a shame! The faithful old servant was sold by the children of William Drumright' this is written by Gracie Drumright Dowland and she obviously did not quote the will inventory directly.

Here it is 2 years since my last post and i've gained a lot more information. Thanks to my Aunt Marcia from the previous post. But there are still a lot more missing gaps. I can only go back as far as William A. Drumright's death in 1909. I need his birth date and parent's names. He was married to Betty Wade (whose birth and death i cannot find). After William A. Drumright's death in 1909, Betty Wade married a man by the name of Thomas Brandon. I also understand she then had more children by him.

According to the book "Drumright's of the civil war" All black drumright's are desendants of a slave named Rachel. I need to know if this is true.

So far I have a little tidbit on Lizzie. My Step-grandmother, Helen Drumright, was her daughter. Lizzie was from Winterhaven, Florida. She was born on Christmas 1890 and died on Jun3 15, 1988. Her mother was Rebecca Webb. She never married. It was said, now this is sketchy at best, that she was inpregnated by a white man. Not sure exactly of the details, I'm trying to find them out as we speak. Her husband's name was Dane and their children were Dane, Jr. 1912, Helen, 1913 and Rebecca, 1911. Hope this helps.

I am a Drumright of African American descent. My family were the only Drumrights in the New York City phone book. So for a long time i thought we were the only Drumrights until i found the internet. I know my grandfather Julious Drumright was orginally from North Carolina and he had brothers and sisters but i never knew any of them. His father's name was William Drumright same as my fathers name and mines. I heard some of his brothers and sisters lived in the Washington D.C area where there is a street named Drumright also....Can anyone confirm this?

There are a large number of Drumrights that can be found in Person county NC - in all census records; in 1900 - among them there is a William - one who seems to have sons with names like Stavious and one that looks like it could be Julious or Junious. In 1920 there is also listed a William Drumwright age 81 and next door a William age 53 with other family members.

Do you have any other information - birthdates, death dates, names of family members, wives?

Denise

For further assistance with beginning African American family research visit the
AfriGeneas Beginners Forum
http://www.afrigeneas.com/forumc/
Hi Denise. Thanks for posting a response to William Drumright. Julious Drumright was born in December 1904. His parents were William and Betty (Wade) Drumright. William died when Julius was about 7. Julius's siblings were Gertrude,Annie Laura and Hallie Mae. Can you find a connection here?
Black Drumrights/Drumwrights. My daughter Shaina was also born in 1984. We can trace back 3 generations to William and Betty (Wade) Drumright. From the Drumright book I find there were 4 white Drumright families that were slave owners in Virginia, North Carolina area. That's as far as I can get. Do you have any more information?

I do have Elzada Birth but not her death or burial location. I also have some information on children but it is spotty. I do know that she Married Josiah Wallin but I don't have his birth or death dates or burial location. I also have information that he died young and Elzada remarried an Eli Jarrett and the children were Gladys, Elsie Burt best I can make out.
