My maternal grandfather was Fred (Freidrich) Drews, b. 1871 in St. Louis, Mo. His father was the immigrant, arriving in New York 17 July 1868. Immigration records I have are: [Germans to America", Vol. 21, pp. 260-261] "Ship: REICHSTAG; From: Hamburg To: New York; Arr: 17 Jul 1868; Drews, Carl, age 31, M, Farmer, GR000 USA; Mathilde (Manski), 29, F, W; Heinrich, 4, M, C; Hulda, 2, F, C" (Note: Charles was born during the voyage but died. Hulda also died on the ship and both Charles and Hulda were buried at sea); [Auswanderungsakten Brandenburg, Preußen Brandenburg, Prussia Emigration Records] "Name: Karl Ludwig Drews; Age: 28; Standing: Dienstknecht; Place of Origin: Raakow/Arnswalde; Destination: Nord-Amerika (USA); Year: 1868; Birth Date: abt 1840"
I do not know who sponsored them, how long they were in New York, or how they finally came to live in St. Louis. If anyone has any connecting information, I would be happy to share other informtion about this family.
