I have been working on a one-name study of Drakes, Drax, Dracas & Dracass (but not Drake) since 1970 and have nearly 2,500 pages of trees and associated notes, plus numerous source files. Virtually everone worldwide can be linked back to one of ten trees in North Lincolnshire, and some nearby villages in West Yorkshire, England. I have the surname back to 1126 in Normandy, France, having arrived in England in 1154 with Henry II. There are also a considerable number of Drakes in Barbados and USA, who may have derived their surnames from slaves on the Drax Plantation in Barbados, or be descendants of the Platation owners. Does anyone have any Barbadian 'Drakes' trees? I have a lot of data about these families, but have been unable to link most of it into trees. I am interested in receiving anything about these surnames anywhere in the world, no matter how little and will try to help where I can. You can find me at
