YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church for Carl Drake Jr., 74, who departed this life peacefully on March 1, 2012.

Mr. Drake was born in Youngstown, Ohio on Jan. 25, 1938, the son of Carl and Georgiana Johnson Drake Sr.

He was a graduate of The Rayen School and had attended Youngstown State University.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service on Oct. 3, 1993, as Postmaster of Girard.
Carl worked for over 30 years at the Postal Service serving in many positions starting as Distribution Clerk at the Main Post Office in Youngstown, and was promoted to various positions including Customer Service Supervisor, Route Examiner Youngstown District, Supervisor Boardman Post Office, Assistant Postmaster of Campbell and Canfield, Ohio.

He was a member of the Postal Supervisors Association, National Association Postmasters U.S., National Association Retired and Active Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 2122 Vienna Air Base, Audit Committee National Postmasters Association, and Phoenix Organization for Black Supervisors.
He was also the first chairman of Litter Committee Northeast Homeowners Concerned Citizens Association, and Representative for the Organization on the Judge Robert Millich, Housing Code Enforcement Committee. He knew the blighted areas on the Eastside and the houses that needed to be demolished. He was also financial secretary for 12 years for the NHCCA and was very involved with the McGuffey Center and the Eastside Library. He was also a member of Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Gloria, whom he married May 24, 1958; daughter Robin (David) Patton of Brimfield, OH; son Kevin of Streetsboro, Ohio; grandchildren, Shayla, Kevena, Amber and Torren; sister-in-law Ida Mae Barron of Austintown, Ohio; brother-in-law John Faison of Youngstown; his aunts, Mabel Luckey and Helen (Shorty) Giles; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Eaton; and brother-in-law Emmanuel Eaton.

A special thank you goes to Hazel Greene his health caregiver who spent many hours by his side, and workers of Hospice of the Valley for their loving care.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
