Drabble family of Harthill, Farnsfield & Clowne

Surnames: Drabble, Grant
I am descended from William Drabble, born in Farnsfield in 1805. William was a shoemaker, who spent most of his life in Harthill, where he and his wife Mary Grant had many children (at least 13). William's father may have been another William Drabble, also a shoemaker, born in the 1780s in Clowne, who also married a wife named Mary. I would be delighted to hear from, and share information with, any others researching this family.

Hi Daphne
I am the great great granddaughter of James Warhurst. It seems that when his parents were young he went to live with his aunt Ellen who married Joseph Rose. I am in the process of loading all my information.
look forward to hearing from you. Annette

Hello Annette,
Thank you for your message. I am not yet quite sure how our families link up, but will try to look at your Ancestry tree and work it out. My great-grandfather was James Drabble (1837-1901) one of the many children of William Drabble and Mary Grant, mentioned in my earlier message. I have gathered quite a bit of information about the Drabble family, which I am always happy to share and expand.
Best wishes,
Daphne

Hello again Annette,

I think I've worked out our connection. John Drabble (1833-1916) ( a brother of my great-grandfather, James) married, as his first wife, Mary Rose (1837-1868). Mary was a daughter of Joseph Rose and Ellen Warhurst, aunt to your grandfather, James Warhurst. A bit complicated !

Hi Daphne, yes I think that's right.
I am trying to find out about the Warhursts and their descendants.
I have been to Mosbborough, Barlow etc: and it seems they lived near the Drabbles. I have seen the name Drabble a few times so will keep researching!

Hi William Drable was my great-great grandfather. My maiden name was Drabble. According to the family tree I have there were 13 children. I do nto have any information about hsi parents so your information is interesting to me. His son John was my great-grandfather. He was the second child and James was the thrid? My tree (which was done by my uncle some time ago) says that James married Lilian Baldock of Huddersfield but there is nothing about their descendants. I am too mean to subscribe at present (not enough time to justify it) so cannot share trees on ancestry but would love to know more about your side of the family and give you any information I have that may be of use
best wishes
Janet

Hello Janet,
Thanks very much for your message. Good to know that my original post is still producing responses after two years !

Your uncle's family tree with reference to my great-grandfather, James Drabble may have a few inaccuracies. James married twice - to Annie Maria Caunt, who died very young of T.B. (two children), and then to Ann Grayson (six children, including my grandfather, William Edward Drabble). Three of the children of James died in childhood, but I have found out quite a bit about the surviving five. James had served his apprenticeship as a painter and decorator in Nottingham with his uncle, Robert James (surname James - married to his Aunt Hannah Drabble). Later James and his growing family lived in Nottingham, Leeds and (by 1881) Huddersfield. One of James's daughters was called Lilian. She married Arthur Edward Baldick.

I can tell you much more about all of them if you contact me by Email daphnejones2001uk@yahoo.co.uk
I look forward to hearing from you again,
Daphne
