Kenneth J. (Kelly) Draayer, 94, long time Clinton resident, died October 1, 2005. He was born June 30, 1911, a son of John Draayer Jr. and Martina Schipper. On December 17, 1930, Kelly married Ruth Briggs, his high school sweetheart, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They spent over 50 happy years together. Ruth died April 26, 1983. Kelly served his community both as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served a mission to Holland and in a Bishopric, as well as a civic leader, where he served as a former Mayor of Clinton. Kelly was a successful farmer and cattleman. He had a passion for his horses and cows having an uncanny knack for training and taming his animals. Throughout the years, he had many winners in race and pulling horses. Besides his love for animals, Kelly loved good music, dancing and family outings. He also drove a school bus for 33 years. Kelly is survived by two sons, Clark (Bonnie), Sunset; Dennis (Norma), Clinton; a daughter, Linda (Jerry) Hogge, Clinton; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanette (Roy) Hatch, Manti. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie; and four brothers, Bud, Jack, Claude and Chris. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 5th, 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse Cemetery.
