Yes that is our family. Mary Dover being my husband's great grandmother. Mary's father was a convict and is buried at Carcoar in the old cemetery. Thomas was his son.
You have done well, thanks for the information. Every little story puts the big story together;
James Dover was convicted at Hertfordshire Assizes 11 July 1820 for poaching game and assault and was given 7 years (which was usually the case) transportation. He arrived at Port Jackson 13 March 1821 on board the ship "Dick". He married Eliza Parker or O'Brien or sometimes known as Ellen Brady but her nickname was Grizella (which is on James' headstone in Carcoar cemetery) They were married in Bathurst Parish. I think the bans posted 21 December 1831 (with Government consent).
In the index to convicts in New south Wales who were granted Pardons, Certificates of Freedom or Tickets-of-Leave in the year 1825 you will find James Dover's name. It is not necessarily a complete list of all certificates issued - only for those near 2000 men and women listed in the Sydney Gazette for this year.
Thanks a million.
