Found info in old letter

Just found some info in an old letter from my grandmother to my mom. It seems that in early 1988, a "Lizzie" Doutt died and my grandmother Daisy Emma (Doutt) Kelley was sent a death notice by her (my grandma's) sister Caroline (Doutt) Apthorp. In the death notice it is mentioned that a David B. Doutt (apparently surviving) lives in Houston, TX. She (my grandma) suggested to my mother to look him up in the telephone book as he is a cousin (several times removed from me I'd guess). I checked the phone book and he is not listed, but he is listed in the 2000 telephone directory on Ancestry.

If someone knows him (his father's name was William or Will Doutt and his mother Elizabeth and they were from Pennsylvania) I'd love it if he could contact me at janetaba@windstream.net if he's still alive. Thanks!

I found this in a book of old newspaper clipping from 1886 I purchased.

Deputy Coroner Ashbridge held an inquests today in the case of Lina Daut aged 19 years of No. 326 South Fifth Street, who was shot twice in the side by her husband George Daut on Good Friday afternoon. She was removed to the Pennsylvania Hospital, where she died yesterday morning from peritenitis the result of the gunshot wounds inflicted by her husband who immediately after firing at her, shot himself and died almost instantly.

We are currently searching for any relatives of Harry Edwin Doutt, born 1909 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents were Charles W. and Edna Doutt. Some members of my family and myself are in possesion of a massive amount of memorabilia, personal papers, etc. that were found in a location which I will not disclose at this time. The whole point of this attempt to locate someone in this family in order to return these things to them should they desire to have them. If these persons should be found, we would like that they come forward with some proof as to their identity and relationship to Mr. Doutt; otherwise, these items will remain in our custody or some other person or organization that we see fit to relegate the care to.

Ephraim Doutt

Hello Diana,
I hope you're still reading this! Ephriam Doutt is also in my family tree. We have to be talking about the same person, but some of the details don't mesh. She has a copy of a family tree put together by another relative. If you contact me, maybe we can compare notes on sources of info. I'm not sure what we have.

Anyway. I have Ephraim Theodore Doutt as born 22 Dec 1833 and d. on 9 May 1882 (a year off from your death date). But I do also have him married to Emeline Butler and as having 14 kids.

Our notes have that Ephraim went by his middle name, Theodore. And also that he was buried in Mt. Herman Seceder Church cemetary, back row, far west. And that that is located in Smithland, Clarion Cty, PA.

I have Emeline Butler's father as John Butler, and his wife's name as Betsey, but no other information.

My great-greatgrandfather was Absolam Anderson (b. 20 march 1861 d. 1924). His daughter Daisy Ethel Doutt (went by her middle name) is my great-grandmother and was born in Ridgeway.

I would love to exchange notes, with yourself or anyone else who can fill in the details around these people.

Thanks much!
Katie (kmann@biglizard.net)
I'm looking for any information on my G-GreatGrandfather Ephraim Theodore Doutt. I know he died May 9, 1883. He was married to Emeline Butler Jan. 10, 1855. They had 14 children; Nancy, Emily, Sarah, Absolam, Della, Joseph, Leah, Margaret, Martha, Laura, Mary, John Clinton, William, and Ephriam. John Clinton Doutt is my Greatgrandfather. He was bornApril 30, 1877 in Widnoon, Smithland Co. PA. He married Nellie Mae Gorton and settled in Ridgeway, PA. As you see I do have lots of information but I'd like to fill in some more. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it. My Grandmother told me that if ever I met another Doutt we would be related as there were only two brothers who came over from Wales. Has anyone else heard that same thing? Thanks for reading such a long note!

I have a picture of Dr. Edwin Stowe Doutt from a kind of yearbook for the group "Opheleum." I don't know what this organization was about and have failed to receive a response from the Pittsburgh historical society. A friend of mine found the book at a garage sale years ago in NJ.
The dates are off, but the name is a perfect match. The info by the picture reads:
Born June 16, 1885, Pittsburgh, Pa.; single; pioneer member. Education: Westlake public school; Y.M.C.A. night classes; Palmer Institute of Iowa. Occupation: physician.
Offices and committees: president 1906-1907; vice-president 1907-1908; recording secretary 1905-1906; treasurer 1903-1904. Committees: banquet, social, constitutional. Activities: baseball; toast-master 1908; banquet speaker 1909, 1912 and 1913.

I don't have a scanner, but I could probably use someone else's scanner to get you the picture. Or I could make a photocopy from a xerox machine (I have an excellent one at work) and mail it to a postal address. I understand if you don't want to use the regular mail. Email me to let me know either way: tiriba@aol.com

I'm very glad that I could help you and your family. Ever since I had this book I've wondered how I could contact the families to give them pictures and info about their great (and sometimes great great) grandfathers. So far, I've found just your family to claim a picture, but I'm hoping to locate everyone. Check out my other messages to see how many I'm working on! I even created message boards for many names.

Might anyone have any pictures of the older Doutt generations?

Someone posted that if you are a Doutt and meet another one, then you must be related because there are only two brothers that came here. She was asking if it were true. I don't know positively but what I do know is that I read every Doutt message on the board and everyone of these Doutt families are either in my files or connected to the ones in my files.

I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the older Doutt generations. I am researching the family histories of both my husband and myself so that one day I might pass it on to my children and their cousins. It would be nice if someone had scanned images that I could "borrow" so that I could include them. Hoping it will make it a bit more "real" to the kids when they read about their ancestors.

By the way, Sarah Minerva Doutt is my husband's great great grandmother. She was married to Samuel L. McKinney. If anyone should have any information that might relate to those individuals, please help me out! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Also, the dates that you cite seem correct. This is terrific. What can you tell me about her and him and any children that they might have had, or just everything that you have on them? Hopefully, I will also be getting an obituary notice on Alfred from someone in Erie that should also confirm the information.

Thanks very much.

- Neal Zank
