I have no connection to these families. This appeared in the October 8, 1852 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Gazette under the heading "Late from California" (news from out west):

“INTERMENTS. At San Francisco Aug 19, Jos M. Hiller of Boston; 20th, John Spencer, aged 22, and E. Judson, 35, Maine; 21st, Jos Grace, Boston, 30; 28th, George Doughlass, Massachusetts.

DEATHS. At San Francisco, Aug. 23, Capt. E.D. Thomas, formerly of Newburyport; Abel Wheelock of Boston.

At Snake Bar, Thomas Turner, of Whitefield, Maine.

At Sacramento, D.F. Watson, of Maine; Eileen M. Cozzens, Boston; John Works, _______; D.M. Smith, Gloucester, Mass.; D.C. Parkhurst, Boston.

Near Drytown, Daniel C. Whitehouse, formerly of Maine, found murdered.

On board steamer California, on the passage from San Francisco to Panama, T.F. Wallace of New Bedford.”
