I could not help myself replying to this, not because I know the answers that you are looking for, but because it mentions Parton.

Parton is a tiny village in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright (Kirkcusbrightshire, in what is now Dumfries and Galloway).

It consists of a row of cottages alongside the road. In the 60's, my father was part of a newly formed preservation committee, one of its aims being to ensure the octagonal communal toilet block, with a door on each side for each cottage, was retained. I hope that it is still there.
