My great grandfather was a Douglas in Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada. I don't know when the family immigrated here (from Scotland) but they brought this old story with them.
*HIS* greatgrandmother used to recite it to him as a child according to family lore.
"Hush ye, hush ye, or the Black Douglas will get ye"
