Hello there, not sure have you found the census records for this family. Here they are:

He seems to have been a great fiddle player - some recordings exist and a tune or two is named after him. Ed Reavy composed or dedicated a couple of tunes in his honour. These tunes are published in Reavy's printed collection. I believe the "unknown" fiddle player in the attached photo, the man with his right hand on his knee and the fiddle and bow in a vertical position, is Doherty. I should be able to verify that if you are interested.
