Hi all. Does anyone know of Patrick Donegan (b. 8/1853(1) d. 7/16/1896)? He was supposedly born in Co. Clare, Ireland. On the 1880 census, he was living in Syracuse NY with his wife, Ellen M Welch, his brother, Michael (a "furnaceman" - also born in Ireland), and his mother, Bridget Unknown. Bridget was born in Ireland in approx 1828. It is suggested that Patrick's father's name was Morris, but I haven't found proof of that yet. Any help would be great!

I just found this web site and see you posted a while ago!. My great grandfather was Patrick Donegan. My grandfather was Nicholas Patrick Donegan. Patrick was from county cork and came here to Syracuse with his young family. My dad has passed so I dont know if I can be of too much help . I can try if you are still interested.

It's nice to hear from family. :) Nice to meet you. I dont have my tree in front of me and it's been a while since I was looking at this so I can't remember which branch I'm from. I go through phases. lol Any information or verification you have or can find on ANY of the family from Nicholas back would be great to know. Thank you for looking and finding me. :)

Wow, i was surprised to here from you so soon. I am glad I could help a little. So are you related to Patrick too?From what I can remember, I think he died youngish I remember my mom saying my grandfather's mother was a widow who raised the children alone by running a grocery store. I can try to find out more from my aunt to see how far back she can remember. My interest has been peaked in this lately. My daughter is really into her Irishness and it would be nice to get her as much info as possible.

Give me a few days to get my tree back. I formatted so I have to re-install it. But from what I remember, Patrick was married to Ellen Welch?? If he's the one I'm remembering yes he died young, between 1880 and 1900? Ellen had to raise about 10 children on her own.

But, like I said, let me get my tree installed and I can see which child of Nicholas' I am through.

Thats right, her name was Ellen, one of my cousins is named after her. i have a photo of her in front of her store with all of the children. Talk soon.

Ok, so you are my mom's cousin once removed I believe. She is curious which of Nicholas and Dunny's children you are from. She is from Helen who married Francis Brown. She is also Patrick's great grand-daughter. As far as we know, there were 9 children, including Helen. She also wonders whether you have been to the Donegan Family Reunion.

Also, do you have a scanner to possibly send that picture you have of Ellen in front of her store?? That would be great!

I am the daughter of Bernard and Dorothy.I had 4 brothers. My oldest brother, Richard, died about 35 yrs ago. Is your Mom one of Helens children? There is always a Donegan picnic in June. We just had a Christmas party on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We haven't seen much of Helen's children. It would be nice to reconnect with them. Just getting back into genealogy after a hiatus, and now starting on my paternal line. I hope you're both still able to get these threads. Patrick DONEGAN was my gg-grandfather, I am descended from his son Edward Michael DONEGAN (b. 26 APR1888, m. Rosalia Hyacinth BURNELL/BERNELL 17NOV~1910, d. 25NOV1960). The info I have so far is no more than what you both have, mostly gleaned from census reports, even the same discrepancies (from Co. Clare or Cork? Born 1851 or 1853?) I have ordered Patrick's death certificate, as well as his wife Ellen's, still waiting for both to arrive. My grandfather's name was Edward Maurice, and Patrick's eldest son was named Morris Edward, so perhaps the name Morris does indeed come from Patrick's father. I'm happy to share whatever info I come up with.
