My grandfather's name was Juan Antonio Dominguez Dominguez, born in Jayuya, PR on May 20, 1888; died August 1972. His parents' names were Fermin Dominguez Merlo and Juana Dominguez Amaral. Fermin and Juana died in August 1899 during the San Ciriaco Hurricane, when they were buried alive in what is believed to be a mudslide, while seeking sturdier shelter. Juana died with her daughter (about 2 months old) in her arms. Fermin and Juana were survived by their 4 children: Juan, Herminio, Angel and a sister believed to be named Rosa. Rosa was raised by a family member, and it is believed that Herminio was raised by a teacher. Juan (who was 11) and his older brother Angel grew up "in the streets". This is the story as my mother remembers it.
Juan had many children: Carmen, Eliot, Debora, Maria Ester, Aurea, Dalila, Luis Herminio, Ramon, Rosa Maria, Elba, Fernando, Prisila, Vivian, Elsa, and Blanca Nieves.
