Emma was born Feb. 13 1859 in Bradley ME and may have lived in Lincoln ME. She was my great-grandmother. She married Alden Fletcher (son Lyman), John Meredith (daughter Althea), William Brimmer, and Olaf Johansen (sp). She died after 1923. Any information, particularly photos (I have never seen a picture of her) would be greatly appreciated. Her sister's names were Lydia, Josephine, Floretta, Isoletta. Thanks, Christie

any relation to Justus Doane and Amanda C. Doane? Have photo of these two in Alden Crowell Taylor's family bible, cir. late 1800's. Any Holway/Taylor connection?

Doane-Holway/Taylor connection
Thanks for the query. One never knows where the next clue will come from. Unfortunately, I only know the names of Emmazetta Doane's relatives from her forward (no Justus or Amanda). There may be a connection that I'm not aware of, but the only other surname I know is a cousin named Waite. I don't even know her parent's names. Good luck in your search. CC

Correction: Emmazetta's first husband was Varnum Tuttle Fletcher, not Alden Fletcher.

Hi, I just read your message although it's 9 years old. My grandfathter's uncle was called Olaf Johansen (from Norway). He emigrated to the US in 1896, and he took part in the Mexican-American war in 1898-1900. The family history says that he married a widow with 2 daughters, and settled in the Chicago area. Then we don't know any more. Do you know anything about this? Sincerely, Bente

Hi Bente, The Olaf Johansen that I talked about turned out to be the wrong person. Mine was Ole E. Ansen. However, in my research about Olaf I did find a World War I Draft card for him in Alaska in the Family History Center records. It had a pretty good description of him but I have since thrown out my copy. He was from Norway, though. I don't know if this is your Olaf Johansen, but it's worth looking into.
Good Hunting, Christie
