I have an original cabinet card photo taken at the 1905 college graduation of “Edna Doan - Amo, Indiana”. Photo was taken at Earlham College, Richmond (Wayne Co.) IN. She looks to be about age 20. I’d like to get the picture back to family, where it belongs.
The Earlham College Alumni Catalog shows Edna graduating with an A.B., that her home was in Amo, IN, and that she became a teacher of Latin in a H.S. In Newcastle, IN. I found Edna with her parents Joseph and Ida Doan in the 1900 census for Hendricks Co., IN, and that she was born Aug 1884. Indiana Marriage Collection shows she married John William Ellis on 14 Sep 1915, and names her parents as Joseph J. Doan and Ida Coffin. John was born Nov 1884, son of Eldridge Ellis and Sarah Bird. A passport 24 Sep 1920 showed that John, Edna and daughter Mary Doan Ellis (born Santiago, Chile on 2 Aug 1919) traveled home to NYC, and that John was a sales engineer who had arrived in Chile in Oct 1915. Living in NJ, they got a new passport in Feb 1921. Find A Grave shows that John died in Cabo Frio, Brazil 7 Sep 1955 and Edna died 30 Mar 1965 - both are buried in Hendricks Co., IN.
