I had unsubscribed from the DOAN and DOANE mailing lists for several months. I tried subscribing again, but I have not received any e-mails from the administrator acknowledging that I had subscribed.

When I received the notice of the 50th Anniversary Biennial Reunion to be held in Barrie, Ontario from July 21-26, 2008, I was so excited! I have been working for quite a while on my WEBB and MCDONALD families, and they
both came from King Township, York Co., Ontario, Canada. My great-great-grandparents, Elias and Trephine (BARABU) WEBB, lived in Aurora and died in Port Huron, St. Clair County, Michigan. My great-grandparents, John F. and Susan (WEBB) MCDONALD lived in King Township and came to St. Clair County, MI, also. My great-great-grandfather, Randall MCDONALD lived in King Township. His first wife and my great-great-grandmother Lydia (DUGUID/DICKOUT/DUCKUTT) MCDONALD came from Elgin Township, and both of them died in St. Clair County, Michigan, although we have not found their graves.

It is interesting that the DOAN/DOANE family is on my father's mother's side, and the MCDONALD and WEBB families are on my mother's father's side. I have been working with researchers from Barrie, Guelph, and King in Ontario
for the last few years, and one of them sent me this that she found at Richmond Hill Library:

Elizabeth WEBB: born 1824 and died 10 Feb 1881.
Married in 1842 to Seneca DOAN: born 1818 and died July 1898.
Father of Seneca DOAN is William DOAN, who came from Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1804 and farmed on Yonge St. Lot 92 in King Township, York, Ontario, Canada.

My researcher friend also said that William DOAN is one of the famous settlers to York, Ontario. Another connection I have with about four researchers from the area near Toronto is the marriage of Joseph BORDEN and Phoebe/Phebe WEBB.

Does anyone know where this Elizabeth WEBB and this Seneca DOAN, son of William DOAN fit in the huge WEBB family and the huge DOAN family?

I don't think anything could keep me from attending the big DOAN(E) Family Reunion next July!

My DOAN/DOANE Line:

Deacon John DOANE/Anne BRYANT (no proof yet but definitely not Anne PERKINS
Ephraim DOANE/Mary KNOWLES
Hezekiah DOANE I/Hannah Ruhamah SNOW
Major Hezekiah DOANE II/Thankful BICKFORD
Hezekiah DOANE III/Sarah BLAND
Hezekiah DOANE IV/Nancy ALLEN
Elizabeth C. "Betsy" DOAN/DONE/John Burge JONES
James Allen JONES/Jane FISH
George Washington JONES/Sarah WALLING - my great-grandparents

Hi Lois

I am one of your 8th cousins- through our WEBB/BOONE lines. Elizabeth Webb, wife of Seneca Doan, was a daughter of John Webb and Rachel Stephens.

Here is her obituary:

"DOAN - At Yonge Street, on the 10th instant, after a lingering illness, which was borne with christian fortitude and resignation, Elizabeth, the beloved wife of Seneca Doan, and second daughter of the late John Webb - aged 58 years.
Funeral to-morrow (Saturday) Meet at the Friends' Meeting House at 11 o'clock a.m."

Lois Griffes Kortering, I am seeking your contact. In our family papers we have a photo of a beautiful child, standing by a haybale in a studio portrait, she is wearing a long cloth coat and bonnet. On the reverse of the photo-clearly old and several thicknesses of cardboard is written:
Cecile Septrion, age about 10 years. From Ludington, Michigan.

There is a story of how our family came to have this picture. Do you think it is a child of the Septrion fellow that you have posted on Ancestry.com? IF it can find a home in a Septrion family? WE WILL send.

Judy, yes, I know exactly who it is in the picture, and I would love to have the picture. You can e-mail me and we can make arrangements. It will give me a strong reminder that I need to get in touch with that family. How ironic, because I have had a reminder to write to a woman from that family for a few years, and now, I will have a perfectly good reason to, possibly, try make an effort to even call her on the phone!

Thank you very much!

THANK you for the reply. If you will send me an e-mail number direct? I will contact you about addresses.

My daughter's husband had both parents who were deaf and went to deaf school in Little Rock, Arkansas. When they married, they moved to California and lived out their lives happily married and raising their children.
There was a family who had a deaf member and they were good friends to our Morgan/Palmer/Windham/Scott family. Deaf people seek out others and have a very tight community.
This family had link to the Septrion family-I do not know how? Do know that the women were well off financially and traveled the world on cruise ships. IT is possible that they may have even worked for the cruise line? We are talking pre WWII here, unknown...only know that upon the death of the friends in California, their paper records and a few photos were given to our deaf Palmer family( Faye Palmer and his wife and they kept the few items for years.

upon the death of Faye and his wife...the living, family had to clean out the house. tHATS when the packet was discovered with the Septrion photo. Faye and his wife, as do many disabled people--never threw out anything. Their home was piled to the ceiling with papers, bags, furniture and even there was a full size decorated, birthday cake with candles, that had become--a rock!mummycake...found under a bed with one slice missing.

There are none in the California, Los Angeles-Long Beach, deaf community that we can find, at this date, that knew the women of the photos and none of the friends of the Palmers are still living. Faye, who did not speak and his wife knew the particulars but never told their son, Frank. He is still living and is not deaf.
-------
the problem, I have is no full names. The one photo of the child, has been glued to another backing..we were a long time in trying to figgure out why and trying to figgure out what was written on the backing. Our grandchildren's family Morgan,Rost, Windham, Scott, were all Arkansas and we have many family lines there, of other marriages: Turner,JAMES, Taylor,DOYLE, Hooten, Massy, CAMPBELL,RUNYAN, Kite, Dodd, Goodwin, Flowers., HUGG...and many others.

For a long time we thought the little girl was Lisa Elizabeth DODD who was born 1884 and married 1902. The child in the photo is what we call, "a spitting image" of the Dodd women. Probably, just an interesting point.

At this time-we are calling it Cecile Septrion and will be happy to send it to you or any other person who is the kin.

I can scan it if you wish? Would you post it to your ancestry Septrion link, just in case someone else links?

thanks for contact....please, send e-mail (judysroots@AOL.COM), I tried the lekort @ comcast.net and it bounced back..please let me know if I have it not correct?

I am taking a course on the Natural History of the Oak Ridges Moraine. It is at the Koffler Scientific Reserve at Jokers Hill with Ivana Stehlik. She teaches a session on the Ethnobiology which includes the local history. I was looking at a map of1878 and the property was marked as being owned by the W.W. Doan and S. Doan families. There are also Levi Rogers, L. Lewis and Augustus Rogers. I know these are Quaker names and are likely descendants of the first and second wave of Quakers that came with Timothy Rogers and attended the Meeting on Yonge Street. Due to the splits some may have been Children of Peace or Hicksites.I am interested in the families on the current property boundaries. And interested in any archival material. Could you help?

Hi - my name is Julie Septrion and my aunt was Cecil Septrion! If you can scan the photo of her standing by the hay and email it to me I would greatly appreciate it! My aunt and my dad grew up on a farm in Riverton, outside of Scottville, MI. My aunt helped raise me.

If I can supply any other information, please contact me at:
septrion@comcast.net. I now reside in Ann Arbor, MI.

Sincerely, Julie

Judy,

I had not been receiving notices about this message board, and I have no idea why! Refresh me, please. Did I ever receive that picture from you? I thought I did but cannot find it! Did you scan it to me or did you mail it to me? It is important because Julie Septrion has just notified me about the picture. If you still have the picture, maybe you can scan it to both of us. I will continue to look for a manila envelope in my computer room, tomorrow, though!

Sorry we have had a hard time connecting,

Lois

Julie,

Notice that I finally wrote to Judy who offered the picture to me, and I just cannot remember if I received it. About a year ago my computer was down about three times, and I changed anti-virus protection three times! Julie, Orville W. Septrion, brother of Cecile E. Septrion, was married to Edna Helen Griffes, daughter of my grandfather's brother, wo we are quite related, indeed! I hope I can either find the picture or get it from Judy, who had trouble getting a message to me, also!

Ann Arbor...great! Our oldest granddaughter just might be going to U. of M. next fall!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Lois

Hi Lois... I have a bunch of photos with Edna in them. Orville changed his name to William O and went by Bill. Most of the kids changed their names. My dad's was Eldron and he went by Bud. Not sure where their parents came up with these horrible names!!

Did your grand daughter come to the U??
