Looking for any information on a Mary Doak, who married James Jack in Chester Co., PA abt.1765. Doak may have been a married name for her as a Mary Doak is listed on the tax rolls in West Caln in 1753.

Hi,

Mary Doak of West Caln 1753 Tax list was married first to Henry Doak. I don't know Henry's parents, but he bought a farm at West Caln prior to 1739, so he was an early arrival, probably an immigrant because I can find no Doak line of the 1700's that included a "Henry". Henry died in 1752, leaving three daughters and a son (William). Mary Doak (her married name) three years later, married a Boyd and he assumed responsibility for the children.

Regards,

John Doak

Thank you John. That eliminates one Mary Doak. I'll have to keep looking for the one who married James Jack.

Best,

Hi Again,

One of the three children of Henry and Mary Doak, was Mary, born in 1744. We think they were Presbyterian. Mary's sister Susanna was married to William Kennedy at Philadelphia on January 26, 1764 at age 22. Her name was misspelled in the records as (Doack and Doahboth).

Mary probably married around 1746 and was probably married in a Presbyterian Church. I would search the Presbyterian
Church records of Philadelphia and the marriage records of Chester county.

Good luck on your search and if you find anything confirming that this daughter IS the Mary you are looking for, let me know via e-mail so I can update my records and notify my Doak contacts.

Regards,

John Doak

Mary Doak who married James Jack on 25 Oct 1768 is the sister to Susanna Doak who married William Kennedy. These people are from Chester County, PA. I descend from William and Susanna (Doak) Kennedy. How are you related?
