Waclaw/Walter Dlugokenski came to the US when he was 17 to a cousin (possibly Marcel). He was from the Mlawa area in Poland and he was born between 1889 and 1906. I found a travel record in 1910 which seems to match this, but, I can't find much after that. He may have mocved to New Castle,PA, Cleveland,OH (Hosmer St) or to Detroit (Bloom St).

Hi Luiza,

I have dozens of Dlugokecki (and Dlugokenski) records from an area near Mlawa (the Janowiec Koscielny parish) that I'm compiling and I'd like to share and compare them with other Dlugokecki researchers.

My Great Great Grandmother was also named Marianna Ploska but she married a Szymon Golembiewski. Their daughter, Marianna Golembiewska, married Aleksander Dlugokecki in 1887. I attached that record.

Incidentally, I speak and read Polish, but I am having difficulty with the Russian translation.

If anyone reading this would like to share Dlugokecki research and records, or if you can help me with some of the Russian translations, please send me an e-mail at rroze2000@yahoo.com.

Dear Lorraine,
Sorry, my English is rather poor ;-) My name is Luiza Dlugokecka. I live in Poland. I checked that in Poland live about two thousands people with name: Dlugokecki. My gradfather was Antoni Dlugokecki (Stanislaw Dlugokecki's soon). His wife's name was Marianna Ploska.
I read your information about the origin of our name. I looked for on Polish websites , but I did not find the Chrinicles of powiat Mlawski ( the information concerning the defence of village Dlugo Katy. Could you give me link?
I am surprised that you have such large knowledge about the Polish nobility.

Hello!
My name is Kristīne Rezņikova and I am from Kuldīga, Latvia. I saw your message in ancestry.com. You said that your grandad is Cheslaw Dlugokecki from Poland. Maybe, your grandad is born in 1912 in Przasnysz and he have a long-lost sister named Bronislawa? If that so, then you are my relative. My granny (Bronislawa Dlugokecki) was born in 1915 in Przasnysz (Poland) and when she was about 20 years old she comed to Latvia. After WW2 she lost all conections with her family in Poland. Now I`m traying to find my relatives too. If our stories stick together, please write me: susurnjix@inbox.lv

I think we may be related --- see my post below to Benjamin. My great-grandmother (Bronislawa) was married to Wladislaw Niski. The Dlugokecki's were from Powiat Mlawski, however, the Niski's had estates in the Czechanowa area. My great-grandfather brought his daughters to Connecticut because of Russian persecution during the Partitions --- he returned to Poland and they were supposed to stay here and go to Polish school (as Polish language and schools were outlawed by the Russian occupiers). Dlugokecki is an unusual name and I am surprised by the many people listed on this web-page with that name. I would assume we are all related (the name is so unusual) --- I do not know all the first names of all the branches --- however, read my other message (to Benjamin) --- perhaps this describes your family?

Re: Dlugokecki

I am a descendant of the Dlugokecki Family (pronounced "dwugokenski") from Plock County, Powiat Mlawski (district), Poland. You can research your geneology re Dlugokecki on this Polish website. Perhaps we are related? You mention the name and its origin. The name is taken from a village named "Dlugo Kanty" (translation: Long Corners). In 1411, in a year of peace, the village of Dlugo Kanty was attacked by invading Teutonic Knights -- a man by the name of "Dziadlo", together with his sons and sons-in-law, successfully defended this little village and defeated the Knights, driving them away -- and thus saved the village. He was rewarded for this heroic deed by a land-grant from the Polish King which also included the village, and his name was changed to "Dlugokecki", Lord of Dlugo Kanty. He also was granted a coat-of-arms. The village of Dlugo Kanty became the "clan nest". This story appears in the Chronicles of Powiat Mlawski -- and also appears in the "Acts of the Kings of Poland" -- there is other documentation as well: ratification from the Polish Sejm (Parliament); recognitions by the Czar of Russia, King of Prussia, and Margrave of Brandenburg. Do you read Polish? There is an excellent CD-ROM diskette available from the Polish Bookstore in New York entitled "Herbasz Polski" by Bienicki (a highly-respected Polish geneologist). Some of the information on this diskette is also in English translation. Feel free to contact me for more information.

Although I have stopped research on my family tree, I know of nobody in my family (immediate and/or uncles, aunts, cousins) of who that might be. Everyone in my line, from Zigmund on used either Dlugokenski or Hill. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I tried contacting Steven Dlugokecki I think last year, through the email he had posted on this site, and got no response. Good luck to you and I hope you find who you're looking for.

Hi,
I live in the Chicago area and am 46 years old, my father was born in Poland. His name was Zigmund Dlugokecki (deceased in 1993). I was brought up in the Boston area. My grandmother's name was Jennie and my grandfather's name was Chester (both names "American-ized". My grandmother was somewhat of a celebrity in the Dorchester section of Boston as she sponsored many Polish people wishing to come to America (found them jobs, etc). Will be happy to discuss further.
Regards,
Andy

All of their names, i. e. Czeslaw (Riverstone N. J.) Wladyslaw (East Chicago) Jan (New Kensington), Stanislaw (New Castle) Mieczyslaw (Clavelend Ohio) Leokadia (New Castle) were found by me in a very old notebook of my geat grand-father Marceli Dlugokecki, who was their relative . They must have emigrated from next to Mlawa to America short after the first world war. I have the detailed adresses if anybody is interested.

Hello, I'm from Guildford, Surrey, England and I'm also looking for people belonging to the Dlugokecki family as it seems there are very few in the world. What a strange surname we all have. I'm a 20 year old student and would love to know my true family origins. My Grandad is from Poland and is called Cheslaw Dlugokokecki, we call him Grandad Chick. Hes alive and well and a really great man. Please feel free to get in contact. ben xxx

Steve,

After coming across some recent information about the Dlugokenski family, I have found that the family name in Poland used to be Dlugokecki. In fact, my great great grandparents were Zigmund and Eva Dlugokenski. Hope this helps you out... Check out http://www.geocities.com/ginanne17 for more information. I update the site every time I find new info. There should be a new update within the next couple of days regarding Zigmund's baptism. Can you help us out with any missing info, ie. brothers and sisters of Zigmund.

Thanks

Gin Harnischfeger
