Hi Christopher
I found your e-mail by chance. I am a Dilg born in Germany and living in the States. My family lives in southern Germany close to Frankfurt. I traced my line to Theodor Dilg (1805-1861)and Katharina Koch.
I came accross the Gollheim line but was never able to prove a connection. My family, the Dilgs in Germany are not sure about the Gollheim connection, but I do not give up so easy. Do you have a tree on Ancestry?

Nicole

Rose Dilg/Dilk

Hello,

I'm looking for more information on Rose Dilg/Dilk. She was born approximately 1898 in New York. She married Andrew Ross in 1919. I found the last name "Dilg" on the death certificate of one of her sons, but I can't find anything when I do a search for Rose Dilg.

After reading through some of the threads in this forum, I decided to look for Rose Dilk, and I found a 1910 census record that might match. She is living with a Margaret Dilk and others. Margaret could be her mother? On this census record, Margaret is born in approximately 1870.

I haven't been able to find a marriage record for Rose and Andrew or a birth certificate for their daughter (my husband's grandmother), Gloria Ross.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I did a quick search and can't find anything that corroborates my father's chart. I expect he charted the family that he knew. His chart shows Lillian as a sister to Margaret and Georgianna. Lillian is shown as married to Anton Froelich with children Viola and Dorothea (married to Cornelius W. Jacobsen).

My search for Lillian Dilg or Lillian Froelich turned up nothing (although I did not do any alternative spellings). My search for Anton Froelich showed records with Elizabeth as wife and Viola, Dorothea, and Hazel (?) as children.

So I am not quite sure what my father had written down.

Andy

When I was looking at the Census, for Margaret a few nights ago with her mom on it as well, it shows that her mother listed having had 4 children, but with only 3 living. Lillian must be the third.

Hi Paul,

Was the Frederick Dilg you mentioned married to Margaret Nicholas? My gg-grandfather was Frederick Dilg, born in Germany and immigrated to NY. My g-grandmother was born 1869, so the timeframe would be consistent.

Thank you,
Andy Lambrecht

I noticed your message from many years ago about your having a second cousin who married a Dilg in Morton Grove, IL. My grandfather was Henry Dilg who lived in Morton Grove, Il. He was born in 1881. I am trying to trace his father's line. I have been told that they immigrated from Germany. If you have any information to share I would appreciate hearing from you.

Well here I am a few years late but with more information. I am in hopes you will get this message. Wilhelmina Cecilia Dilg is my 3x gr. grandmother. She married Georg Adam Creuzbaur/Kreuzbaur March 25, 1787 at Evangelisch Ober Kostenz, Rheinland, Preussen. She was born on December 14, 1767 on the Morsel, Kirchberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany and died March 26, 1847 in Durlach, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. She was buried on March 28, 1847 at 4:00 p.m. Her parents were John Arnold Dilig and Maria Charlotha unknown. You will find that Wilhelmine was listed as Medicinal in some places which I guess meant she was married to a doctor, who was Georg. They had 4 children information which I have but I will stop here until I know whether or not you get my message. Katkrzy@cmaaccess.com
Finally getting back to you. I still haven't found Fred's calling card but did find his card from where he was living at the old soldier's home in Long Beach, California. I will send you a copy of it. I also have a Nicolaus Dilg's German birth cirtificate (1838, Nov 30. His father was Johann Heinrich Dilg born in 1798 and his mother Wilhemina Graff. I also have their marriage certificate, signed by those present. It is in Old German so I can't read it very well. As I said before the only record of a Fred being born in Goellheim was in 1814. When I went to the US archives and went through his military records I found he was 6' 2" with sandy brown hair. The letters supporting his disability claim (3/4)from having his clothes frozen to his body while laying in a river all night (if I remember correctly he was observing the enemy). There was no record of him being promoted to Capt. even though he said he was and I believe the letters refered to him as a Capt. He said he was Capt. in Co,"B", 9th Ill, Vol. Inf. At the time I was in Goellheim, I didn't know Freds father so when I couldn't find his birth in either Goellheim or Kirschheimbolanden I just picked out a name since I knew there was a brother Nicolas and they may have been related. jdilg@msn.com

You are correct, it might not be. I suspect that Dilg was americanized to Dilk in many cases, but in this case I suspect the census taker just wrote down what he/she heard. The german g at the end of the word is much harder than an english g. I was taught to sound it more like a k.

Beyond suspicions, and yes, it is still somewhat circumstantial, the ages and birth places in the census listing for Fred, Margaret, and Georgiana are all consistent with what I have. I do have reasonably high confidence that this is my family Dilg.

Of course tying your Margaret to the Maggie in this listing may be little bit more iffy, although her age seems to be somewhat consistent. The naming of her son as Frederick is interesting.

Andy
The family details fit into what *could* be Maragaret Dilg's family. However, "Dilk" is also a very popular family name and the census record could be correct. I found the same census record last night, but wasn't sure what to make of it.

Conversely, my Margaret named her second son Frederick, and if the two Margarets are one and the same, possibly after her father then...

Dear Christopher - I would love to access your family tree on ancestry.com, but I can't find it. Is it still there and is it in ancestry world tree or One World tree or a public or private personal tree? Ancestry won't let me look at any of them except ancestry world tree because I am no longer a member there. Please help. Thanks, Joyce

Did you find anything on the Margaret Dilg in NY that you are looking for? I came across a Maggie Dilg who was listed as a sister of Georgiana Dilg in a census, but she would have been born in 1860 instead of 1870. Georgiana is my great grandmother.
ANdy

I found them in the 1870 census under the name Dilk, which would be similar to how it was pronounced in German. The names and ages seemed correct. Georgiana was listed as 1 and Maggie as 10. So as long as the age in the census was correct, that would put Maggie born in 1859 or 1860. There were no other siblings listed then, and I don't remember being told of any. I learned of Maggie from the census listing. I can check with my mother to see if she remembers anything, but this is my father's family.

The following information was provided to my by my Grandmother (daughter of Georgiana).

Georgiana Dilg, b 11 Nov 1869, New York, New York. d 19 Aug 1954, Brooklyn, Kings, New York. Married William Herman Duecker.

Father. Frederick Louis Dilg (could have orginally been Friedrich, but Frederick is how my grandmother knew him) from Landau Auf Heidelheim. b abt 1837, d 12 Oct 1893.

Mother. Margaret Nicholas (could originally be Nikolas or Nickolas or Nicklaus, but this is how my grandmother knew it). b 1840 in Alsace Lorraine, Germany. D 10 Dec 1932. She showed up in the census in her later years with Henry and Georgiana Duecker.

Margaret's parents.
Jacob Nicholas, Alsace Lorraine Germany and Anna Marie Schmidt.

I have just started digging into my fathers side so most of what I have is from my grsndparents. My father and both of his parents were all only children so I don't have any close cousins.

Andy

I have been reading of your extensive family tree which has peaked by interest in learning more about my grandfather and his origin. I wonder if he is part of your family history, and/or you might have other information about him, or other Dilgs?
His name was Henry Dilg, born 1/21/186l. He was born in the US, in New York City, I think. He died in NYC on 5/15/41 I know that he died in NY, since I was 4 years old and remember it distinctly since I too was living there. He was married to Grace Huff Dilg, at the time. My father, his youngest son, Charles Arthur Dilg, B. 3/23/00, in NY.

Hi JoAn; Glad you're back on the boards; I hope that's a sign that you're healthy too! If Chris doesn't see your posting, I may be able to help you. However, I can't verify any of this information; this is strictly from his posting on Ancestry. It is similar to a family tree I inherited, but both trees have some errors (for instance, in later generations, Chris has a child born long after a father's death; in my copy, a wedding date is prior to the bride's birth). But hopefully you can help us connect to actual documents from Germany.

Chris posted the following male lineage for his DILG line: earliest known male ancestor is Andreas DILG b. 1650 Gollheim, Germany. His son was Johann Martin b 1696. Next generation was Conrad (12/15/1728-2/21/1803) and the next generation was John Peter (2/19/1778-6/20/1847). Next was John William Dilg (2/24/1810-3/2/1894). So far all these fathers/sons were born in Gollheim. The last, John William, is the one who emigrated to USA, settling in Phila PA; he's my husband's gggrandfather.

Do you know the parents/grands of your Wilhemine Cecilia DILG? Do any of the above men seem to be a connection? Also, is the surname actually DILG on your German documents? A relative had told me that the name had been something else in German- Americanized to DILG, but I have seen some records which show it as an actual surname.

I hope we can somehow connect. Thanks, Lynn

Hello Colonel Dilg:

Thank you for your interesting response.

By the way, how are we related? Are you also descended from George and Frederick's father - Johann Nikolaus? (Frederick Dilg was my gg grandfather.)

The furthest back that I have been able to achieve in my search is to George and Frederick's grandfather Johann Michael Dilg who married Christina Woernerin on 13 Feb 1803 in Gollheim (Pfalz, Bayern). Their son, my gg grandfather Johann Nikolaus Dilg, was born on 8 OCT 1807 in Gollheim and christened on 11 OCT 1807 in the Evangelische Kirche Gollheim (BA. Kirchheimbolanden). gg grandfather Johann Nikolaus married Miss Catherine Howenstein (born June 24, 1806) and along with their four children (George Philip, Nicholas, Katherine, and my g grandfather - Frederick b 3 Feb 1840) immigrated to the United States in 1845.

Do you have any information on Johann Michael Dilg and Christina Woernerin Dilg and their ancestors? Any information would be appreciated. You mentioned that you have a Frederick's calling card during his residence in the Old Soldier's home in California. Would it be possible to obtain an electronic copy of it? (My email address is nagirragpc@yahoo.com)

The only information that I have of the family in Germany is that listed above.
Hello.

It appears that we are cousins.

The earliest Dilg ancestor that I have found is my great-great grandfather John Nicholas (Johann Nicklaus) Dilg who was born in Goellheim, Germany (Rhein Pfaltz) on 9 OCT 1807. His parents were Johann Michael Dilg and Christenen Woernerin. John Nicholas was christened on 11 OCT 1807 in the Evangelisch church in Goellheim. John Nicholas married Miss Catherine Howenstein (born June 24, 1806). The couple had four children (George Phillip, Nicholas, Katherine, and my great-grandfather Frederick) all born in Kirchheim Bolanden (near Goellheim). The family immigrated to southern Illinois (Mascoutah near St. Louis) in 1845.

Joyce Martin, who replied to your posting on 30 SEP 07, is a direct descendant of the aforementioned George Phillip Dilg. She has provided me with a number of interesting stories about George Phillip's family.

I would be pleased to provide any information on Frederick (son of John Nicholas) Dilg's descendants in the US. Many reside in the St. Louis area but we also have cousins in California, Texas, Kansas, and Ohio (me), as well.

Regards,

Paul Garrigan

Christopher,

We may be cousins. I am definitely interested in obtaining information on the Dilg family trees.

My great-great grandfather John Nicholas (Johann Nicklaus) Dilg was born in Goellheim, Germany (Rhein Pfaltz) on 9 OCT 1807. His parents were Johann Michael Dilg and Christenen Woernerin. John Nicholas was christened on 11 OCT 1807 in the Evangelisch church in Goellheim. John Nicholas married Miss Catherine Howenstein (born June 24, 1806). The couple had four children (George Phillip, Nicholas, Katherine, and my great-grandfather Frederick) all born in Germany. The family immigrated to southern Illinois (Mascoutah near St. Louis) in 1845.

I would be pleased to provide any information on Frederick (son of John Nicholas) Dilg's descendents in the US.

I am curious what you have learned from your contact in Gollheim.

Regards,

Paul Garrigan

Re: Dilg Family from Kirchheim Bolanden Germany

According to my grandfather all those you mention came to the U.S. together. I reserched Frederic's Civil War record in the Archives in Wash. D.C. many years ago (it makes for very interesting reading). He said he was born in Kircheim Bolanden on the 3rd of Feb (can't remember the year without going through my records). I went to the Rathaus to search the records and the Clerk and I went through all birth records before and after his stated date. There was no record. I also spoke with residents. All concerned sent me to the Goellheim Rathaus about 10 miles away. The personnel there, when I stated I was searching for my forefathers, said "Which Dilg do you want?" I looked for Frederic and George without any luck. There was a George but not the correct one. I did get his marriage. Certificate which was signed by all the Dilg's present at the wedding. He married a lady by the name of Graff. As I left for home I saw a graveyard on a hill. The largest monument there bore the name "Graff". I didn't stop and never made if back to Goellheim. The oldest name I have found was Harold Dilg Von Dilg who died in 1252. I have Frederic's calling card that was made, I suppose, when he was living in the Old soldiers home in California. It has his picture and all the battles he fought in during the war.

German Dilg's

I have an extensive data base of the Dilg family from Germany. I know that my family has a Henry Louis Dilg 5-12-1873 died 7-6-1944 and his family had five siblings and his father had seven siblings. The relation mainly stems from Gollheim Germany. I am in the process of putting our puzzle together and have extensive info that just needs to be processed. Eighty years of research was put into gathering our familys info. The holder died and left it to me.
