My great-great grandfather John Nicholas Dilg was born in Kirchheim Bolanden Germany in 1807. He married a Miss Catherine Howenstein who was born in 1806. John Nicholas and Catherine had four children
(George Philip, Nicholas, Katherine, and my great grandfather Frederick - born 1840) and immigrated to Mascoutah, a small town in Southern Illinois near St. Louis, in 1845. The three sons all served in the Union Army during the Civil War.
