Hi.I am not sure if I answered you before. But if I did I never got a reply back. My grandmom was Evelyn Yourison Woodring and she had lots of sisters. Hannah, Hazel, Julia, Chrissy. And some brothers. My mom didnt know too much but I know the yourison name was their dads last name. My grandmom Evelyn told me herself that her mother was either half italian or all. But she never told me the last name. But every search I do this last name keeps popping up. Do you have any info? my email is

kris4245@yahoo.com Thanks Evie

im sorry to bother you,but my grandpa's name was Joseph Dibella. his parents moved from sicily, italy to North America around the same time your ancestors moved. i dont know much about the dibella history either. i actually came across your post when i was looking for my grandpas obituary. i still havent found it though. but my grandpas grandparents settled in ohio, they ran a farm. then my grandpas parents ran a glass factory around Catlettsburg, kentucky. His sister and brother are still alive, but i could find out what my grandpas grandparents names were, to see if there are any ties to our families?

My paternal grandfather Salvatore Charles DiBella came to the USA around 1915. He was from Cimmina Sicily. He has been gone for a long time and unfortunately so has my dad but I am hoping to find relatives that still live there or in any part of Italy. I hope to visit in a few years and am anxious to find my roots.

Joe, do you know the names of your DiBella ancestors from the late 1700s? My father's family, who emigrated from Tusa, Sicily, lived in the New London, CT area. There is a Di Bella ancestral line in my Di Gangi/DiMaggio family. The only names that I have are Nicolo/Nicola Di Bella, who married Anna La Lima. Both died bef. 1828 in Tusa. Their daughter, Grazia Di Bella, was my ancestor, and she married Vincenzo Di Gangi. He died in 1808 and she died in 1828, both in Tusa. If these names are in your family, I'd love to communicate with you.

Anne DeGange Begnaud
abegnaud@charter.net

Rachel,

I have a distant branch of DiBella's/Di Bellas in my family tree. My family originally came from Tusa, province of Messina, Sicily, which is close to Cefalu and Castelbuono.

My 5th great grandfather was Nicolo/Nicola Di Bella, married to Anna La Lima. Their daughter, Grazia di Bella, would have been my 4th great-grandmother, and she married Vincenzo Di Gangi.

I realize that this does not provide much information. If anyone is a descendant of this family, I would love to hear from you. My father's parents emigrated in 1901 and 1902 and settled in Westerly, RI, and then in New London, CT. Their surnames were Di Gangi and Di Maggio.
Not yet, but I'm constantly trying to learn more. My grandpa knew Mr. Di Bella very well and even had him and Joseph Bonanno over for dinner.

I'm reading Joe Bonnano's son's book "Bound by Honor" and then I also have Bonanno's autobiography which mentions a bit about John Di Bella and Grande Cheese in Fond du Lac.

My grandpa was H.W. Bingen, the Fond du Lac City Assessor, Tax Assessor and Welfare Director over 31 years. I think this is why Bonanno was drawn to him. My grandpa moonlighted at the Retlaw as a bartender and knew Di Bella there. What did your grandfather do? I wonder if they knew each other. What was in the Weber diary, I'm very curious. This was a whole other world!

And I remember as a kid meeting John Di Bella, who lived in Fon Du Lac, always dressed with a suit, hat, and drove big caddilacs. I would like to know more about him and my grandfathers connection, who was Arthur J. Weber. Also, I would like to knwo more about Joe Bonanno's driver from Chicago. I am also curious about the Saputo family, the Di Bella family, and the Joe Bonnano families connections. Do you know anythign about this?

I am doing research on the Vincenzo Di Bella (1895-1980) and his wife Anna Camardo (1891-1971)from Polermo. Both died in Brooklyn NY. Anna came on the SS Augustin in 1930 from Naples with her daughters Fortunata (Faye), Domineca (Minie), Vincenza (Nancy), Rosa, and Francesca (Fran). My connection is through Fortunata, but I am looking for any connctions to this family. The famil seems to have stayed around Brooklyn, NY.

Oh and it doesent stop there! There was another Di Bella who was actually acting boss of the Colombo crime family (he was very famous for his secrecy) where he lived in a house in Staton Island. His name was Thomas Di Bella and he was boss of the family in 1973 untill ill-health demoted him from top spot and instead became a consengiere and eventually died in 1978
My Grandmother (Lucia who live in London) is also a DiBella along with her other brother (who lives in Australia) and her sister Maria who lives in Giarre, sicily on the bottom of etna.

Paolo

He lived in the Retlaw Hotel in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to oversee business at Grande Cheese, which was supposed to be invloved in organized crime.

Mr. Di Bella was a colleague of my grandfather during his time in Fond du Lac. I believe he died in 1961 and would like to learn more. Thank you!
