Hi,

My parents (Santokh/Mohinder) settled in Derby in England sometime during the late 1950s followed by my dad's brother.
All the kids were born in the UK and are now scattered across the UK, I'm in South London.

Back in Village Dhanday, my parents have recently built a second home and spend long periods over there each year.

Most of my immediate family have been over to India for a visit
but I've not managed it yet, hopefully in the next couple of years though.

Cheers.

Manav,

You are right. To the best of my knowledge, all Dhandas are related. Dhanda is a gotra of Sood. My ancestry comes from the village of Khatrachaharmi, in Dist. Ludhiana. I was born in Dayalbaghn near Agra. I did my engineering degree from IIT, Bombay. Currently I live in California, USA.

My paternal grandfather, Late Kundan Lal Sood, was very good at drawing the family tree. He told me about my ancestry about 10 generations back. I never wrote it down and this valuable info is no longer existent. In my ancestry also are famous people like Duni Chand Ambalavi who was a advocate and a famous freedom fighter, and his son, Dr. P.C. Dhanda, personal physician to our first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Dr. Dhanda had his clinic in front of Gurudwra Sisganj, Chandni Chowk, Delhi.

If you are interested in more information, do tell me more about yourself. My e-mail address is inukcaus@yahoo.com

Thnx

Ram

Hi there,
There are many Dhanda's in the little town of Gravesend, Kent, where most are related. All other Dhanda's in the town are also known, but not related. My ancestry is from the village of Dhanda, but my family resettled to the pend of Jand and then came in mass to England.

Hi Satyendra,

It is a pleasant surprise on receiving your message.

Although I am a Dhanda, I use my last name as Sood. Ancestrally I am from Khatrachaharami village(this village is near Rarewala village famous for Raaraa saheb, and about 2 km from Sarhand canal) in Ludhiana distt. Other villages nearby are Gopalpur(ancestral village of Mahindra & Mahindra - a gotra of Sood), Bataari etc.

Dr. PC Dhanda, according to my late grandfather, Kundan Lal Sood, is related to us about 9 generations ago. His father, Duni Chand Ambalawi, an attorney by profession, was a freedom fighter. I met Dr. PC Dhanda's daughter about 1967 while I was travelling by train from my home in New Delhi to my school, IIT, Bombay . She, at that time was about 18 yrs of age, I believe was headed for Baroda where she was studying at an Arts school. I saw her name listed outside the compartment. As soon as I see a Dhanda name, he or she, if around my age, becomes my cousin brother or sister. So I talked to her for about two hours as a brother. I do not know if she, if I ever meet her, will even remember our meeting!

We surely are related to each other, because you say you are related to Dr. PC Dhanda. You are more than welcome to contact me at inukcaus@yahoo.com.

I also am a Canadian citizen having lived in Canada( Toronto and Saskatoon). Currently I live near Los Angeles.

I look forward to knowing more about you.

Thanks

Ram

Hi Guys,

I'm living in Essex now but my Grandfather came over from qround 1955, he settled in Handsworth, Birmingham. There are many Dhanda's there, mainly around the Smethwick area )mostly Jat).

My parents sold the Jumeen in Dhandey and purchased a whole lot more in a different area of Punjab for various reasons mainly, no-one to look after it in the area.

I know there are quite a few in Derby, London and Birmingham - UK

Take cre guys,

Jas.

I think you and I are related

Hi Jas

I think you're related to me in some way. Some of my dads family from who lived in Dhanda moved to Jand (I think it was when my grandads or greatgrandads brothers split the jameen or something like that. Anyway - most of them who live in Jand are now in Gravesend - so i reckon you guys are the some family!

It's very possible, so you're not in Gravesend then?

My dads name is Shaminder and should be known to your family if we're related.

There is another family of Dhanda's in Gravesend who we know from the same village, but we're not relate by blood as far as I know. I think the senior family member is Chalman.

I dont think all Dhanda's are related.
My dad was ashamed of his last name cuz of how people pronounce it.
Dhanda ppl prenouence it as danda like stick, or flag.
or thanda, meaning like underground drug dealers, prositiution, etc..

BUT what it really means my grandma told me is that Guru GObind was passing thru the village
and gave it that name... DHAN Da (two syllabols... ) DHAN meaning blessed (or bless, or blessing) an DA meaning the one
SO meaning Blessed one, bright one...
