I am trying to locate the following persons or their descendants on behalf of an elderly uncle ? James Devenney of Sydney NSW Australia- who served in the Palestine & Egypt with Australian Army during WW2.
During a to Rachaels Tomb, he signed the visitors book (name & and address) and whilst boarding a bus to visit the Dead Sea, another person named Devenney called out to him as the bus was departing. He did not meet this English Soldier named Devenney, but after the war he corresponded with him but this eventually lapsed.
James Devenney has given me the challenge to locate the person he calls HUGH DEVENNEY or any of his surviving relatives.
I have the following information or notations which may be of assistance.
1.Hugh Devenney ? known as Rev Brother Hugh Devenney ? resided in a Welsh Monastery.
2. Hugh Devenney came from London.
3.I have a photograph of Hugh? Devenney in a Christian Brothers black suit with the small white fixed collar.
4 Another photograph with notes on reverse:
· Myself (Hugh Devenney?) in Home Guard Uniform (Red Cross)
· Maurice my 3rd brother
· Bills (William) wife
· Mick (Michael) R.I.P
· Taken at our home in London partly destroyed 1941
My research with Commonwealth War Graves Commission reveals a
Michael Raymond Devenney age 18 died on 25 June 1944. He belonged to the Hallamshire Bn, York & Lancaster Regiment. Parents Patrick & Hannah Devenney of Bolton Lancashire.
I have some other photographs sent to me some years ago by my uncle which he claimed came from Ireland. They are:
· Pat (could be Devenney) in sitting in dress uniform. Lance corporal and could belong to a Fusiliers (eg Royal Irish) Regiment
· Toll & wife ? wedding photo. Toll very tall in Army (soldiers) uniform.
· Wife sitting.
· Bill? In soldiers uniform pictures with Arabs somewhere in the Middle East. There is also a Baboon in the photo
We think these photos are related. Any responce will be greatly appreciated.
