Detoy, Charles Johnson

DETOY-Charles Johnson , born in Pasadena on October 20, 1924, was the son of Charles and Henrietta Johnson Detoy. He died on December 21, 2005 after a long illness. A graduate of Flintridge Preparatory School, Pomona College and Claremont Graduate School, Chuck was a true scholar. During his freshman year at Pomona however, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 42nd Division (Rainbow) where he served as a reconnaissance scout in Northeastern France. He received multiple commendations including a Bronze Star and a Silver Star as well as a Purple Heart. After the war he returned to complete his degree at Pomona and, while starring in productions at the College, became a contract actor with Paramount Studios. During the time of the Korean War, Chuck was recruited for a position at the Central Intelligence Agency where he served for three years. He returned to Southern California in 1954 and began a 35-year career with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate. He was a Vice President at the time of his retirement. Throughout the years, Chuck devoted significant time and energy to civic groups including Flintridge Preparatory School, All Saints Episcopal Church, Good Samaritan Hospital, Descanso Gardens Guild and Hillsides. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, his sons Richard and William, and his four grandchildren Christopher, Michael and Thomas Detoy and Jessica Cline. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena on Wednesday January 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send donations in memory of Charles J. Detoy to either the Flintridge Preparatory School 4543 Crown Ave. La Caada, CA 91101 or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018.

As far as I know neither of these names are on this line of Detoy's. Also, ours is spelled Detoy.

Thank you for the wonderful information. I am related to her through her brother Guy. My father remembers calling her Aunt Lilah. Do you know where she is buried? I have her death as 1/31/1963. Any info on the date of marriage or how they met etc.???? I can share info on her line if you are researching?

Hi Betty,

Thought I would update you on what I found. Louise Detoy did marry Frederick Cellarius. She had three children Frederick Jr, Joanne and Christopher. Frederick married a woman named Susan. Frederick died 9/21/1991. I hope to go and visit her soon. I found a picture of Louise and several pictures of Lilah. Lilah and Louis were both cremated and are resting at the IOOF cemetery.

Looking for relatives of Ferdinand Detoy. He is my grandfather who died in California. His sister was Claudine Detoy. His son, Norman C. Detoy, and daughter's Pauline, and Adele. I would appreciate any information. His first wife and the mother of his children was Dena Tate.

She was referred to as Lilah, Married to Loui or Lewis Detoy who was my husband's Grandfather's brother. Loui and Lilah had two chidren. Charles Detoy and Louise Detoy. They lived in the Santa Cruz area

I talked to my mother in law and she does not know where they married or where buried. Sorry! She was wondering if you know if Lilah's daughter, Louise is still alive? She was in an irion lung with polio.

I just talked to my mother in law and she does not know if Louise died. The last place she lived was in Seabright, CA.

Hi Betty, I believe that Louise married a man with the last name of Cellarius and that she died on March 2, 1980 in Santa Cruz

My great great aunt was Delilah (Stockton) Detoy who died in Santa Clara County in 1963. b. 1874 I have been looking for information on who she was married to.

The other spelling for DeToy that my relatives have is DeTaeye (That is what it was in Belgium, and some of them kept it when they came to America)

Does anyone out there know how Detoy was spelled before it was changed to Detoy. It sounds like Du Twa....but that is not the way it is spelled. Help!!!!!!!!
