Detoy, Charles Johnson
DETOY-Charles Johnson , born in Pasadena on October 20, 1924, was the son of Charles and Henrietta Johnson Detoy. He died on December 21, 2005 after a long illness. A graduate of Flintridge Preparatory School, Pomona College and Claremont Graduate School, Chuck was a true scholar. During his freshman year at Pomona however, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 42nd Division (Rainbow) where he served as a reconnaissance scout in Northeastern France. He received multiple commendations including a Bronze Star and a Silver Star as well as a Purple Heart. After the war he returned to complete his degree at Pomona and, while starring in productions at the College, became a contract actor with Paramount Studios. During the time of the Korean War, Chuck was recruited for a position at the Central Intelligence Agency where he served for three years. He returned to Southern California in 1954 and began a 35-year career with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate. He was a Vice President at the time of his retirement. Throughout the years, Chuck devoted significant time and energy to civic groups including Flintridge Preparatory School, All Saints Episcopal Church, Good Samaritan Hospital, Descanso Gardens Guild and Hillsides. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, his sons Richard and William, and his four grandchildren Christopher, Michael and Thomas Detoy and Jessica Cline. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena on Wednesday January 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send donations in memory of Charles J.
