Hello,I am very interested in the Derbyshire's of Garston,Liverpool.Perhaps you could help me ?
I have a Thomas Derbyshire born Garston,Liverpool 1810 He married Ann(e) Sutton born 1810 at Formby by the Sea (near Southport,Lancs )3rd March 1835 at St.Peters Church,Church Street,Liverpool. He was a Carter. In the 1851 Census he is living at 104,Warwick Street,Toxteth Park,Liverpool with Anne & children: Jane (13)James (11)Mary (9) William (6) Alice (3) Elizabeth (1)there is another son Thomas (eldest?) (papers not at hand, because I am trying to get to grips with the SHARP side of my family ! ).
Forward to 1858...
Jane Derbyshire (20) of Aberdeen Street,Toxteth Park daughter of Thomas Derbyshire (Carter) married James Sharp (22)of Whitfield Street,Toxteth Park, son of Jonathan Sharp (Porter) at St Michaels Church,Toxteth Park,Liverpool. Witnesses are : Thomas Sharp (eldest brother born 1859)& Elizabeth Jackson..that name comes up later in another side of the family ( GRAY)..
Forward to 10th October 1886...
Elizabeth Alice Sharp (23) Malta Street,Toxteth Park, daughter of James Sharp (deceased) marries Peter Clayton (26) son of Thomas Clayton, also of Malta Street marry in St Michaels,Toxteth Park.Witnesses : Alfred & Louisa Wright.
In the 1901 Census.Anne Derbyshire (widow of Thomas Derbyshire)aged 91 is living with her Grand daughter Elizabeth A (nee Sharp) & Peter Clayton in & great grandchildren..in Hale Village,Halewood (now the outskirts of Speke (John Lennon Airport)Liverpool.
She died in September 1901 Prescot register 8b 500.
I have a photograph of her sitting in a wicker bathchair beside a pond/lake in beaver hat & coat..(& willing to send you a copy)........My father, Frederick Ronald Sharp born 1907 was very fond of his Great Aunt "Lizzie " (sister of William Sharp born 1871) & Peter Clayton and their daughter LENA born 1901 ?
If you could give me any help, guidance or clues,I would be very grateful.
Some of the Derbyshire's seem to have emigrated to America (Virginia)
My father knew that he had past family in America & New Zealand..up which sides,I am not sure.I have been in touch with Derbyshire's in Virginia..definite connection, hers are also with the Rigby's of St.Helens,Lancashire.
Makes my head spin, how about yours ?
Kind regards,Lynne
