I can find a Josiah and a mary in Clark county that would be about the right age, but my people's marriage license says John and Margaret - and I can't find them in another census to see if Mary/margaret might say her dad was born in Ireland which my Margaret's was. Thanks for your help, I will continue to look for them in this area.

We're you able to locate info you were searching. There were some Bowers in the Grove family, also Clark County. All settled in or near Chatawba, OH area.

There were Demory's settled in Pleasant Township, Clark County, Ohio in the 1820's. They arrived from Loudoun County, VA. Some Darfllinger's settled in Madison County, Ohio. Of those settling in Pleasant Township, there was John and Eve Demory.

I am looking for a John Demmory who married Margaret Bower/s in Brown county, Ohio in 1836. I cannot find them in any records after the marriage - or him before the marriage. I am assuming the name was misspelled and wondered if anyone on this list knew a John Demory that might 'fit' with this marriage?

I am looking for proof of a link between Roger Demory and Henry Demory(Damery) died 1365 father of Walter Damerie(sic) died 1409.
Although Roger married Elizabeth de Clare 1295-1321, I believe Henry is son of Roger by a previous marriage.

My husbands ancestor was Wm Demory 1789-1873 m. Rebecca Link 1795-1877. Don't know of a Luther...but with the middle name Link, there might be a connection.

Looking for infomation on the immediate family and descendats of Luther Link Demory and Orra Ellen Jones. The last I have found them 1910 in Fairfax Co., VA. Orra Ellen Jones is a recently discovered cousin on a side of the family we didn't know existed until about two weeks ago and am eager to find out more about them.

There were some Demory's living in Loudoun County, VA in the early 1800's. Some of them along with other families (e.g., Grove, Neer, Waltman, Ropp, Everheart,) migrated to Pleasant Township, Clark County, OH.
Have you been able to locate the birth record. If so, it should give her parents' names. Good Luck

I don't know for sure the nationality of the Demory's in Virginia. However the Loudoun County settlement were German and it is my best guess that Demory was German. Also the families that migrated to Pleasant Township, Catawaba, Clark County, OH were of German descent. This area was known as the Loudoun County Germany Settlement, or something quite close. I have nothing for these individuals other than a birth date for Emelia and her marriage date. The same goes for her syblings. I am sorry I could not help. Have you checked cemetery records where she resided before coming to Indiana and when they came to Indiana. I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

John Demory born 1772 married Eve Darflinger. Their children were: Eve, Barbara Ann, William, Jacob, Josiah, Peter, Emelia, Sarah & John. According to the 1850 Union Twp. Champaign Co. Ohio census John Demery age 75, farmer b. Va is living with the family of Simon and Barbara (Demory) Ropp. It is Emelia that I need info. on. She married my great great great grandfather, Edwin Joseph Harris 27 Sept. 1832. They moved to Indiana and Emelia must have died between 1840 & 1850. She isn't listed in the 1850 census with Edwin and children.

Your husband and I would be second cousins. My grandmother was Annie Bell Catharine Demory Funk, born last of eleven in February 1885. I have extensive information on the family, including the Virts/Demory Family Bible dated 1836. Jane was Jane Priscilla Virts, daughter of Michael, who bought the Bible in 1836. If you folks live near the Virginia/West Virginia northern border, we are pretty close.
Let me know what you know as well.

Henry Edwin DEMORY / DUNKUM

In the 1930 census in the household of Henry & Nona DEMORY there are listed 2 boys; William DUNKUM age 8 and Henry M. DUNKUM age 7. These boys are listed as "boarders". I am researching DUNKUMs and am trying to place these boys. I am thinking they may have been foster children, but that is just a guess. The family was living on Diamond Ave in Gaithersburg, MD. Also in the household were the DEMORY children: Leo, Charlie, and Beulah. Does anyone familiar with the DEMORY family know anything about these boys?

Have been reading with interest on Demory. My friend is at least a 4th great grandson of John Demory, whose wife's name was Margaret. Then their three children are Elizabeth, Peter, and John (1773-1853) maried Eve (1773-1848); and so on.
John Demory (1773-1853) is buried in the Vernon Cemetery, Pleasant township, Clark County, OH (stone spells name Demry).

Added comment. So there may be many more descendants interested in the sword.

My grandmother's maiden was Demory and she lived in South Carolina. Her father's name was Cornelius Gehu Demory does anyone know of this family? Cornelius married Lota-Ellen Willerson. What was the nationality of the Demory's in Virginia? Any information is greatly appreciated.

My grandmother's name was Dora Demory (maiden) and her mother's name was Lota-Ellen Willerson. Willerson married Cornelius Gehu Demory. As far as I know Dora had at least 2 sisters. If any of this sounds familiar please let me know. Any information is greatly appreciated.

I don't remember if I replied to this old message, but... I have been extremely busy and my genealogy has taken me to other branches of my family.
Family history is replete with bad spelling. The marriage record of William and Mary Long listed him as "Demry". The children that he had were male Demry's and have produced a large family that spells the name Demry, the way that it is pronouced. The name was also spelled Demery.
I hope that this is enlightening and not old news. I love your efforts.
