I believe the Lottie Deline you are looking for is my great grand father's sister. If it is true then she is the daughter of William Deline and Matilda (Tillie) Reid - she was from Peterborough. - parents were Edward and Caroline Reid. William had other children with her as well - Ezra Fletcher Deline , Fred Deline, Martin Deline, Mary Jane Deline and of course Lottie - I do believe she married a Whiteman from Tweed. \
Saw your post and the reference of Carl Deline being your grandfather. His mother Carrie as you noted had 3 children out of wedlock (William Warden Drain 1913-1919, Ernest Franklin Drain 1916-1923, and James Anson Drain)1917-1917). Carrie was involved in a bigamy case regarding her "husband" James Nelson Drain. He was legally married to my ancestor Ellen May (Nell) Cross. I have newspaper copy I can share if interested.

Curious as to the line of Carl Deline and his brother Clifford., both born before the three children mentioned above.......can you fill in any gaps? I show Carrie as dying 3 May 1923 in Peterborough, cause of death influenza. She is buried in Maple Grove Cem, Havelock Ontario

thanks

I have a copy of Jerimiahs death cert. He was John and Freeloves son. The cert. lists Freeloves last name as Bruce/Boice/Bice... the hand writing was questionable. Someone is listing her as the daughter of Jerimiah Bice with no documentation to back it up. It is interesting that they do not have a mother listed either...Her death cert. states she was born 1775, not 1785 and that she died in 1879 in Perterbourough Ont. If you are interested in a copy of said cert. email me at skyehawke@sympatico.ca
Tereasa

As far as I know the woman you mentioned was just named Freelove..her last name was thought to be Stone at one time but that was incorrect.
My fathers grandmother was Esse Blanche Wickware Deline(his great grandmother) she passed away at my grandmothers(her grand daughters home in 1949) I possess a family bible that belonged to her with some dates of marriages, births, etc. Hope this helps somewhat.
My email is..weathermonger1@gmail.com.

I have a fairly thorough history of the Delines starting in 1699 and containing a small portion of the Van Rotterdams as well.

My grandmother Ethel Deline was born in Roblin Township..she is a direct descendant of Benjamin Lanyn and Margeret Clute.
Benjamin came from Picardie France, a Huguenot soldier..he married and settled in Schenectady . N.Y.
It is a large family and one of my relatives have traced it back twelve generations....it seems there is a relative named Freelove who was a Native Mohawk.
I do have photographs of the Deline homestead in Cloyne Ontario as well as photos of Esse Blanche Wickware(married George Deline) and their children.
Look forward to hearing from any family:)

Thanks, any proof on that or just passed down?

It would seem possible, as the Rhode Island tribe (Chief Freelove) was decimated, and those who remained joined other Indian tribes or were accepted. The Seneca's like the Mohawk belonged to the Iroquois League. So thanks much. greg

Jane is the daughter of John and Margaret DELINE. She had the following children with Isaac: J. Peter, Caroline and Mary. I believe J. Peter was "John Peter McQueen" named after his great-grandfather.

Isaac died before 1838 and Jane remarried Aaron SIMMONS and had a daughter Elizabeth.

The fact (or idea) that Freelove was Native American has been passed down.

I received an email from a cousin, saying that a researcher discovered Freelove was a Seneca native (which I can forward to you if you'd like - attached are photos of John and Freelove). But, I always took that with a grain of salt until I find more evidence. It's a great starting point though.
UPDATE - Photos added to my family tree of the two of the sisters in question, along with Frank and Annie (Ashwin) Deline. Also the possibility of another sister born after 1911: Elsie Deline who apparantly married a gentlemen named Les Gibson. They moved to Alberta at some point; he was an engineer with Texaco.

Hopefully this stirs the pot some!

Hello all,

My grandfather is Claude Maurice Deline, son of Frank Deline who is the son of Hiram Deline. While I have some good info on Samuel Arthur Deline, I have little to no info on his other siblings. They are:

Keith Deline, born 26 Aug 1904
Florence Lillian Deline, born 2 Sep 1908
Annie Mabel Deline, born 29 Mar 1911

I've just received photos of grandfather and grandmother, as well as them with his parents and sisters. I'd sure like more info to go with them then what I have. Any details would be very much appreciated as I am heading to Kingtson in three weeks to take pictures of hedastones and would like to track them down if possible.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.
He married again on 22 February 1928 to Mrs. Mae Piper in Ogdensburg.
Sixty years ago, Mr. Deline entered into the general contracting business. He was joined in partnership by his son, Roland J., in 1923.
In his career as a contractor, Mr. Deline’s firm had many of the large construction projects in the North Country.
My records indicate John Deline died at 1 year of age. Also, there was a daughter who married a Simon Stone, they were with John and Freelove when they came from Quebec to Madoc.I have the doc on that.
Re: John and Jacob Deline in Richmond, Ontario

Hi Tereasa, there are definitely records that state very clearly the birthplace of Jacob Deline as New Brunswick and not Quebec- but as I said in my last message, when he was born, were Quebec and NB all one territory?

I see that his brother Uriah must have a record or two that also said he was born in NB as opposed to Quebec. Keep in mind that if the family came up out of New York State, they may have travelled along the seacoast (as did the Loyalists in late 1700's) and it would be very possible for some of the Deline "kids" to have been born in NB as they travelled.

This following is a transcription but it is apparent that Jacob's place of birth was recorded NB and not Quebec- I don't think Elizabeth Hancocks confused the two as she deciphered and recorded:

From County Marriage Registers of Ontario, Canada Volume 13, Lennox and Addington County, compiled and edited by Elizabeth Hancocks, C.G., her page 10:

"Deline, Jacob, age 47, living in Richmond, born in New Brunswick, son of John and Freelove, married on June 22 1864 Eliza Ann Deline, age 44, living at Richmond, born at Richmond, daughter of Thomas and Hannah."

So in the above marriage register we are referring to same Jacob Deline whose first wife was Melinda Windover, Melinda had died just four months earlier on Feb. 19, 1864.

Jacob married Eliza Ann "DELINE" on June 22, 1864 who was the widow of his BROTHER JOHN DELINE- John had died August 18, 1860 and is buried at Richmond in Ontario. Eliza's maiden name was Waldron, her parents were Thomas Waldron and Hannah Potter.

Jacob Deline and his first wife Melinda Windover had at least ten children together.

His brother John Deline and Eliza Waldron had at least eight children together.

Jacob Deline and Eliza Waldron did not have children together that I know of.

If you have a John Deline in your records who died at age one year, do you know who his parents were and where he died?

In that original Deline family (children of John and Freelove) I have a daughter Hannah Deline who married a Thomas Stone- did he have another given name Simon? Thomas Stone was born 1807, died Oct. 20, 1879 at Richmond in Lennox County, Ont. I have names of six children for Thomas and Hannah and there certainly could be several others, one of them was a son named Simon born about 1828. I have no info for Hannah- have no idea when or where she died.

If you need additional confirmation about anything I have posted here, please do contact a woman named Karen Windover who will have files and notes on these families.

Thanks from Nora

John and Jacob Deline in Richmond, Ontario

I notice that several people are posting (and have recorded) a John Jacob Deline or Jacob John Deline in Richmond, Lennox County, Ontario as one man. This is not correct. There was a John Deline and a Jacob Deline, who must have been brothers, probable sons of John Deline senior and his wife Freelove who both came from the USA.

Jacob was born about 1817 most likely in Quebec, although I see some people recording New Brunswick as his place of birth- were Quebec and NB all one place in early 1800's?

Jacob married Melinda Windover about 1840; she was born about 1822, died Feb. 19, 1864 at Richmond. They had at least 10 children born between 1841 and 1861.

On June 22, 1864, four months after Melinda died, Jacob got married a second time to Eliza nee Waldron, the widow of John Deline who had died on August 18, 1860 at Richmond.

I have no children listed for Jacob and Eliza together, but with her first husband John Deline, Eliza had at least eight children between 1843 and 1860.

Eliza Waldron Deline died August 19, 1900 at Richmond.

Some of Jacob and Melinda's children moved to Lambton, Kent and York counties in Ontario.

Nora
