I am researching Phillip and Nannie R Decoursey. Phillip was born into slavery in Jefferson County Florida and Later became Sheriff of Leon County. I do not believe them to be related to your Decoursey. I was curious as to how they obtained the last name as I'm pretty sure that their father's last name was Ramsey.

Re: LOOKING FOR ORIGINAL TOWN IN CORK COUNTY IRELAND FOR DECOURSEY

Hi Deborah May:

My Father In law (now deceased) was Andrew DeCoursey, son of Andrew DeCoursey, great grandson of Denis Decoursey who came to New York City from County Cork during the middle of the famine(exact townland unknown) and married a Catherine Spillane (maiden name, also from County Cork, original townland unknown) in the 1850s. Denis's parents were apparently John DeCoursey and Julia Mahoney. I have extensive research but it stops back there. I am aware of Kinsale DeCourcey's and DeCoursey and my father in law travelled there years ago (there is still a DeCoursey country poster from the Kinsale region at his home) but he always thought that his people were from a small town and no links to any of the nobility (i.e. Kinsale DeCoursey's) so Lisapatrick makes a lot of sense to me. Do you have any Mahoney's or Spillane's in your line? My email is JPALLENJD@YAHOO.COM. If you send me an email, I can send Family Tress and Powerpoint. I am now only a limited member of Ancestry. Please let me know, thanks! Regards, Jim Allen, Bergen County, NJ USA, son in law of Drew DeCoursey

Hi, my name is James DeCoursey Sawyer and I stumbled upon your thread here and thought I could help. I was in Ireland a few years ago with my family and we visited Roundstone, Ireland in County Galway, which where the DeCoursey part of our family is from. We met our relatives, named DeCoursey and saw that many buildings in the town were also named DeCoursey (such as the grocery store). I have pictures of my dad and I in front of that store. Roundstone is a wonderful little seaside village no more than two blocks long. Any questions, I'd be happy to email or talk with you. Hope this helps.

I am looking for any information regarding Frank DeCoursey, m.Daisy Eaton (1865-1945). Father of Theodore (~1900-1978), Anson (d. 1918) and Alice.

Mother and three children were born in Pennsylvania. I have records of both Daisy (in 1880) and Theodore (in 1910) living in orphanages during their childhoods. By 1910 only Alice was living with Daisy. Theodore was at the orphanage and I am unsure of Anson's location at that time, though I do know that he died in 1918 during WWI.

Children of Charles Vincent DeCoursey (b. 9 Jun 1873 in PA or OH; d. 1948 in KY)
and Estelle T. [maiden name unknown] (b. abt 1872 in VA; d. aft 1929) (all children b in Virginia ):
Cora E. b abt 1896.
Margaret J., b abt 1899. married a Jones, had a daughter Billie.
Harry V., b abt 1901. married Libby Matherne and died in LA 1968??
Charles A., b abt 1904.
Mary E. V., b abt 1906
Ruby Ann, b abt Apr 1909. probably died young.
Leonard T., b abt 1911. died 1979?

I believe they were divorced and Charles then married Pauline Hester Cornett. I have no solid proof that these two Charles are the same person though, only census info.

I have found Estelle and her family in these censuses:
1910 VA, Augusta, Pastures, ED 38, Im 22 [head: Charles V DeCoursey]
1920 NE, Douglas, Omaha W3, ED 32, Im 45 [head: Clarence Brewer?]
1930 VA, Richmond, Richmond, ED 44, Im 34 [head: Larkin C Burnett]

I can't find Charles & Estelle in 1900, I was hoping it might answer a few questions. We don't know who Charles DeCoursey's parents were.

Erica

I believe the second wife of your Larkin C Burnett may have been an Estelle T (maiden name unknown). Estelle appears to have been married at least 3 times, first to a Charles DeCoursey (abt 1895), then Clarence Brewer (betw 1911 and 1920) and finally Larkin Burnett (abt 1923). From what I can tell she only had children with Charles DeCoursey. I've pieced this together using only census records, so it's still pretty unverified. I'd love to exchange information, I'm researching this DeCoursey family for someone else.

Erica DeCoursey

Also any info on his parents and grandparents that you may have would help, even if it's only approximate dates and places. The more information you provide the easier it is to find the right family.

Erica DeCoursey
decoursey "at" gmail.com

Thanks for the clarification. the only Samuel DeCoursey b. 1820 is Samuel Eggleston DeCoursey. Pendleton Co KY census records list the family. He is the son of Leonard DeCoursey and Lydia Eggleston. The only military record that is stated in the William DeCoursey book, page 99-103 is regarding the Civil War and Confederate Army. Samuel's wife is Elizabeth Ann Tomlin. Is this the one you are looking for? He was born 16 Mar 1820, Campbell Co., KY probably Covington. I have a copy of his will. Another descandant has been working on this line, also. Can contact me at genbits@charter.net.

We have a little misunderstanding. The Samuel B. Decoursey I'm researching was a United States soldier fighting in the war with Mexico 1846. He enlisted at Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky. I didn't say anything about Ireland.

DeCoursey can be spelled Racer, DeCourcy, Coursi, DeCourcey, Coursey, Courcy, Corsi (NC records), MY line came over as French Hugenots, therefore Racer was used. Ireland Line directly back to Cromwell, and in the Doomsbury Book in England, DeCourcy. Charlameigh (sp) had Decourcy offspring. [illeg....] Which line came from where.....?????

Coursey / DeCoursey surname Y-DNA Project

The newly started Y-DNA Project for the Coursey/DeCoursey surnames is seeking participants! It is open to all males with any variation of the two surnames as well as those who believe that they are descended from a Coursey or DeCoursey. (Females can participate by sponsoring the testing of a male relative.)

The main goals of the project are to learn more about the origins and history of the surnames, identify different family lines and help researchers make connections (and hopefully break through a few brick walls!).

Examples of surname variations: Coursey, Corsey, Courcey, Courcy, Course, Corse, DeCoursey, de Courcey, de Courcy, DeCorsey, DeCourcey, DeCourcy, DeCourse

For more information visit the project website at:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/coursey

Anyone with questions about the project or DNA testing is welcome to email me at courseydna@gmail.com

All prospective participants are welcome!

Erica DeCoursey
Project Administrator
