Given that protestant French fled to
England, Holland and parts of Germany; and some Norman DeBus's could have followed William the Conquer or fled France in the terror of the French revolution, we could all be French.
BUT, consider many ©ermans married into Russian and
English families and took along gardners, tutors, other servants and general "hanger ons" and several Russian Czars gave land to
German settlers ( like our Homestead acts) (there were still
German settlemens in Russia at WWI) and Germans fought in most European armies, besides trading over most of Western
Europe (again taking along clerks, etc; are we all Germans. (and there were those border changes) Who knows? Where did the
Debus family come from? It could be an interesting book if someone could trace a family back to 8 or 900 AD.
