I am decended from Jan and Maria Freund Van Renen. Elizabeth Balk Wiersum was my grandmother. I can remember visiting my great grandmother before she died in Kenosha. I am the daughter of Mae Wiersum Horton. I am Pamela Horton Holt. I am just planning a trip to the Netherlands this summer. Any tips on what to check out while there? On an earlier trip, I found the park in Zeist where my Great great grandfather worked, as I had an old picture. I also have photos of Jan and Maria. The older relatives tell me that Maria was Jewish.

I have a Birth Certificate for Charles Henry de Bruin born in Barbados 5th May 1843to Corporal William de Bruin and Jane. It looks like by my records that Jane McCausland was William's first wife and I think she died as on William's marriage certificate to Ann Sophia Stedman it shows William as a widower and it shows Cornelius de Bruin as a Foreigner - profession unknown. There are several DeBruins in a grave in St. George's Christ Church, Beckenham (my local church) - Arthur DeBruin (died 16 April 1877 - age 26) also William DeBruin (died 10 August 1890 - age 78), Ann Sophia (died 10 Dec 1917 - age 97) also William DeBruin (died 30 Apr 1931 - age 71) and William's grandson, Arthur James DeBruin (died serving his country 1916).

I'm somewhat stuck with Cornelius as a military record which I have managed to download is not very clear but it looks as if he served with 4th Battalion 60th Regiment from 20 Feb 1796 to 19 June 1815 ( I think he was discharged with 'trench foot' (although it doesn't actually use those words) and it states that he was born on 7th May(think around 1775 but not sure) in or near the town of Markes(?) in the country of Holland(?). It doesn' t say anything about a wife.

My research shows that Charles Henry deBruin was my gt gt grandfather - his son Maurice Charles my gt grandfather and his son William Cecil being my grandfather.

If you have anything further on Cornelius I would love to hear.

Hi can anyone please help me. My Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Helena Cecilia De Bruyn who on the 08 June 1896 married my Great Grandfather Ferdinand Coenraad Launspach in Johannesburg, South Africa they seperated on the 02 June 1900 and divorced Abt 1905. I have no further information on her other than she was born 09 May 1881 and their was a P.S.W. De Bruyn as a witness on their marriage certificate. I also know that she had a sister who lived in Pretoria. If anyone can help me find out more about my Great Grandmother it would be most appreciated.

Hi Dawn, I live in Beckenham,Kent and also looking for Cornelius DeBruin (my maiden name was de Bruin). I have a marriage certificate for William De Bruin and Ann Sophia Stedman dated 13th May 1856, showing Cornelius De Bruin as the father - Profession - foreigner - unknown. I believe Cornelius may have been in the 4th Battalion 60th Regiment and according to his Discharge papers he may have been born around 1775. Also according to the Discharge papers he was born near or in the town of Markes in Holland. I'm thinking of contacting St. George's Church in Beckenham where the marriage of William took place to see if they have any further information.

I have found some information with hints from someones tree, I dont know if its correct and want to compare it to your information, I was thinking if I could txt you my address you could photocopy and post your information, it will be quicker on your end to do than scan, and I like to have the information on paper and would print it off anyway? does this sound like a good idea?

Israel was said to be born c1823 at Maysville, Kentucky and he moved to Winchester, Adams County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Jane Middleton (b. c1829 at Ripley, Ohio). They had a son Thomas M. De Bruin (b. 28 Feb 1856 at Winchester, Adams Co., OH and d. 04 May 1929 at Toledo, Lucas Co., OH). He married Katherine (Kate) G. STROUP (b. 27 Oct 1855 at Winchester, Adams Co., OH died 13 Mar 1920 at Toledo, Lucas Co., OH). Both buried at Columbus, Franklin Co., OH. Anyone have any info on this family?

just a bit of information regarding Adrianus de Bruin.
My Opa , Hendrik de Bruin was a brother of Adrianus , Opa was born 29 Jan 1900 in Driebergen in the Netherlands, He passed away 26 Jan 1986 at Driebergen . There was a total of 12 children .Opa was married to Jetta van Essen. My dad Gijsbert de Bruin was one of 9 children , dad's dates are as follows ,Born 17 July 1921 in the Netherlands he passed away 26 Jan 2003 in Rooty Hill NSW Australia .
can give you some more info if you like .

there is a grave yard in winchester ohio with who came 1st
but i think 1 is the son and the other the father
1 hand a son name norvel
he had a son named osbourne
eh had a son named jules
he had a son named james
he had a son named james and that is me hope this helps
there is a church that may or may not be standing in winchester ohio i have never seen but my dad and aunt laura used to spend ever summer there and this church has a stained glass window with the name de Bruin in it

I am searching for relatives and ancestors of the de Bruin family. My great-grandfather Adrianus de Bruin and his wife Caroline (Van Rien) born in Holland came to the US on the ship Rijndam from Rotterdam port, arriving at Ellis Island 9 August 1910. They had two of their sons with them Gysbert (my grandfather Gilbert) and Jan (my great-Uncle John). They settled in Kenosha, WI.
Andianus de Bruin (29 Dec 1883 - 6 Jan 1978) m. abt 1906 Caroline Van Rien (2 Feb 1881 - 4 Sep 1923) and had Gilbert (16 Nov 1907 - 13 Mar 1986), John Adrian (24 Aug 1909 - Oct 1970), and Adrian, Jr (5 Oct 1912 - Oct 1979).
I am looking for more information on their ancestors in Holland and descendants still living.

Adrianus de Bruin (b. 29 Dec 1883 in Utrecht, NLD d. 6 Jan 1978 in Kenosha, WI) s/o Gijsbert and Gerritje [Smit] de Bruin m. 21 Dec 1906 in Driebergen, NLD to Carolina van Renen (b. 2 Feb 1881 in Driebergen, NLD d. 3 Sep 1923 in Kenosha, WI) d/o Jan and Maria Wilhelmina [Freund] van Renen.
I am the grandson of their son Gijsbert (Gilbert) who was b. 16 Nov 1907 in Amsterdam, NLD d. 13 Mar 1986 in Neenah, WI (resident of Almond).
I am looking also for descendants of Adrianus and Carolina's other children Jan Adrianus (b. 24 Aug 1909 in Holland d. Oct 1970) and Adrian (b. 5 Oct 1912 in Kenosha, WI d. Oct 1979).

I found several Adrianus and Gijsberts...

It is in Dutch, but there are English directions and from there you can figure it out.

instead of de bruin, just enter bruin; instead of van Rien, enter just rien.

I am replying to a post from 2001 so hope this is still relevant. Hyman Israel de Bruin was born in Amsterdam, Holland on December 24th, 1796 and married Rebecca Easton of Lincolnshire, England who was born March 28th, 1804. If interested I am able to relate some oral history of the Middleton and Huston families incl. the Huston petrified man
exhibit scandal in Nebraska, etc.

You must be a relative of mine, as Douwe and Maaike DeBruin are also my great-grandparents. I am the grandson of their oldest surviving son, Charles (Kos) DeBruin of Fair Lawn, NJ where Douwe and Maaike settled. Their home is still in the DeBruin family, currently owned by their granddaughter (Charles' daughter) Dorothy DeBruin.
