One other thing, I found a 1920 Cedar Rapids census that shows a Samuel as a father in law with a Katherine Isaacs the wife of the house (Charles' sister?). I can't remember her husband's first name though. So this appears that it could be the same line based on birth places and ages.

Hi Anne,

I did a search on Ancestry.com and found Samuel in the 1880 census in Iowa with his mother Mary. She is listed as 65 years old, born in Conneticut, father born in France/mother in Connecticut. Samuel lists his father born in NY. There is also another DeForest family just a few names above so probably related Joseph, Emma, Samuel and another name I can't read. Joseph's parents born in F-NY, M-Conn. He's 29 so maybe a cousin to Samuel? Just a thought. Joan

This is what I know........

Grandma Tyni (known as Nina) Komula born 9/7/1904, died 5/16/1991, her mom was Mariya Komula born 11/18/1876, died 6/23/1963. Her father Marcus Alatalo who changed his name to Stalo, born 7/6/1871 and died 7/24/1940.

Not sure when or why Marcus changed the last name.

Tyni (Nina) married Charles Francis De Forest (don't know date) he was born 2/8/1896 and died 10/6/1953. Was raised in Iowa and Wisconsin. Tyni (Nina) and Charles eventually settled in Detroit, MI. They moved around a bit because they were both deaf and were afraid their children may be taken away from them. (thier children; Mary Anne, Henry, Velma, Shirley and John)

Charles dad was Samuel De Forest, born in Iowa 12/21/1855 and died 2/18/1934. They originated in France (may also have some Belgium too) Charles mom was Mary Ann Nevilles born in Iowa 8/15/1864 and died 2/18/1906, she is from Ireland.

Family stories say that Tyni (Nina) and Charles met at a school for the Deaf.
